Meet the 16th ISEM Congress's next lecturer - Dr Zheng Jenny Zhang, MD, MSc who is a Professor in the Department of Surgery and the Director of Microsurgery & Preclinical Research Core (MPRC) at the Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC) and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. π β¨ π£

As a transplant surgeon/scientist, Dr. Zhangβs research interest has revolved around developing and utilizing small animal transplant models to address critical questions relevant to the field of organ transplantation, specifically to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying transplant rejection responses and immune regulations, transplant infectious diseases, and to develop innovative methodologies in the diagnosis and treatment of transplant rejection. π‘ π
As a principal investigator, Dr Zhang has led several research programs funded by NIH, Department of Defense, as well as private research foundations/biotech industry. Respectively, and has published extensively in the field of transplant immunology. She has served as a reviewer for multiple international scientific journals. She has served on and Frontiers editorial board for many years and is an associate editor Frontiers in Immunology - Alloimmunity and Transplantation.
In addition to her academic research, Dr. Zhang has been the founding director of the CTC MPRC since 2009. The Core has five microsurgeons and a senior technologist and has served all interested investigators in NU and other academic institutions with more than 6000 microvascular surgical procedures including thousands of vascularized mouse kidney/heart transplantation and mouse kidney ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury models. Moreover, the core has provided training for many trainees, postdoctoral fellows, and medical students from the US and other countries. Dr. Zhang has been the treasurer for ISEM since 2016.
