Pulmonology on Air on behalf of Lys Medical:

What a day!

The Pulmonology On Air Global Event 2025 brought together over 2000 participants from all across the globe. We’re proud to have showcased the power of Iriscope in two groundbreaking live cases:

🔹 Dr. Samy Lachkar demonstrated a peripheral lung nodule biopsy using Iriscope under local anaesthesia, guided by 3D planning.

🔹 Dr. Olivier Taton performed a complex case using Iriscope with CBCT navigation, highlighting the precision and reach of our 1.3 mm video probe.

Thank you to all who joined us and contributed to the vibrant global discussion. Your questions and engagement made this event truly interactive and impactful.

Pulmonology On Air on behalf of Lys Medical:

The Pulmonology On Air Global Event 2025 was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when technology meets purpose. Iriscope was at the centre of two live cases that demonstrated how direct visualisation of peripheral nodules—even Ground Glass Opacities (GGOs)—can transform patient outcomes.

💡 From real-time navigation under CBCT to local anaesthesia procedures with 3D planning, Iriscope proved its value in improving diagnostic yield and reducing invasiveness.

With 77.5% of attendees being physicians and a global audience spanning from China to Egypt, the impact of this event was truly international.

We’re grateful for your trust and curiosity. Let’s continue pushing the boundaries of interventional pulmonology—together.

🫁 Scientific Publication of the Month – February

Asthma management has changed dramatically over the years — but are we using all the tools available to guide treatment decisions?

In this month’s episode, Prof. Felix discusses a study that looks beyond standard biomarkers and asks a provocative question:
- Could bronchoscopy play a role in personalizing therapy for severe, uncontrolled asthma?
- What if tissue-level information tells us something blood tests can’t?

🎉 Welcome to 2026!
We’re starting the year with a brand-new episode of Scientific Publication of the Month.

In Episode 11, Prof. Felix discusses a recently published study addressing a key question in pulmonology:
How should physicians be trained in bronchoscopy before performing procedures in clinical practice?

The paper explores modern simulation-based training and its potential impact on education and quality of care.

Pulmonology on Air on behalf of Erbe Bronchoscopy:

Prof. Piero Candoli presented a case during Pulmonology on Air focusing on EBUS-guided cryobiopsy of mediastinal lymph nodes.

The patient showed mediastinal lymphadenopathies on FDG-PET scan. The procedure of the lymph node sampling began with EBUS scope insertion and vessel assessment. A 22G crown-cut needle was used for the first puncture, allowing the subsequent insertion of a 1.1 mm cryoprobeto enter the lymph node.
Initial freezing time was set to 3 seconds. The final sample was removed en bloc with 4 seconds freezing time.

We thank Prof. Candoli for sharing this case and contributing valuable insights to the Pulmonology on Air community.

Do you practice cryobiopsy in your current lymph node staging?

Pulmonology on Air on behalf of Erbe Bronchoscopy:

Dr. Judith Brock shared a case during Pulmonology on Air involving a 71-year-old male patient with a suspected tumor in the right upper lobe.
Lymph nodes were assessed based on size and PET-positivity to guide the sampling strategy.
The tumor was accessible via bronchoscopy and visualized in the bronchus. Sampling included rEBUS guidance and cryobiopsy with a 1.1 mm probe. Initial freezing time was set to 3 seconds and adapted to 5 seconds after first sample control.

We appreciate Dr. Brock’s contribution and her case-based insights shared with the Pulmonology on Air community.

How do you approach sampling strategies in visible endobronchial tumors?

Pulmonology on Air on behalf of Erbe Bronchoscopy:

A compelling case on central airway obstruction was presented by Dr. Hari Kishan and Dr. Preeti Vidyasagar during the Pulmonology on Air Global event.

A 47-year-old female patient presented with a broad polypoidal lesion in the distal left main bronchus. The team applied a combined approach using cryo and electrosurgical techniques with the full Erbe Pulmo setup including VIO® 3, APC 3 and ERBECRYO®2

The procedure began with snare resection using Endocut Q to cut and coagulate in a single step. Tumor tissue was then extracted using a 1.7 mm cryoprobe. Bleeding control was achieved with APC using a straight fire probe.

We appreciate the insights shared by Dr. Kishan and Dr. Vidyasagar, and their contribution to the Pulmonology on Air community.

What is your preferred setup when managing central airway obstructions?

Pulmonology on Air on behalf of Erbe Bronchoscopy:

One of the clinical highlights from Pulmonology on Air 2025 was shared by Prof. Li Shiyue and Dr. Chanhao Zhong
They presented a robotic-assisted lung cryobiopsy in a 75-year-old female patient with a ground-glass nodule in the right upper lobe.

The approach combined robotic navigation with the Polaris™ system, rEBUS confirmation and CBCT imaging. With rEBUS in place, CBCT was used to verify tool-in-lesion before tissue sampling. Cryobiopsy was performed using a 1.1 mm cryoprobe and ERBECRYO® 2 and five samples were obtained

This case provided valuable insights into the integration of imaging and navigation in complex biopsy procedure.
We thank Prof. Li and Dr. Zhong for contributing their experience to the Pulmonology on Air community.

How do you approach ground-glass nodules in your clinical setting?
