Mpi_Age EU research project: Using multidimensional prognostic indices to improve cost-effectiveness of interventions in multimorbid, frail older persons.

This project aims to use multidimensional prognostic indices (MPI) that predict mortality, based on a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), to improve the cost-effectiveness of health interventions in older individuals with multimorbidity and polypharmacy.

High level scientific results are spilling over from MPI_Age more than 2 years after the project's closure! Another very interesting article titled "HOSPITALIZED OLDER WOMEN ARE FRAILER BUT LESS OFTEN DIE IN HOSPITAL THAN MEN: A PROSPECTIVE STUDY OF OLDER HOSPITALIZED PEOPLE" published in Maturitas. Great team, great achievements.

It is widely known that women live longer than men worldwide, regardless of other demographic and clinical characteristics [1]. At the same time, women tend to experience a greater burden of multimorbidity and frailty than men, particularly in older age [2].

MPI beyond MPI_Age! Even if the MPI_Age project closed months ago, the results and outcomes are more than alive. Here below a publication where MPI is used to evaluate efficacy of Anticoagulant treatments. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s41999-018-0026-6

Background Previous studies suggested that a different risk of mortality may influence the oral anticoagulant prescription in older patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Recently, the...

MPI_Age is generating knowledge also after the end of the activities! We've been published in Jamda some days ago with a paper deriving from the huge WP6 multicentric experimentation activitiy! Another great success for the project's partnership.

To evaluate whether treatment with antidementia drugs is associated with reduced mortality in older patients with different mortality risk at baseline.

The MPI_Age project opened further research lines. In Nice, yesterday late afternoon, some MPI_Age partners, with many other EU centers, participated the Interim Investigator Meeting of the EUROSAF Study (Evaluating The Efficacy And Risks Of Anticoagulant Treatments In Multimorbid Frail Older Subjects With Atrial Fibrillation), an interesting research promoted by EUGMS and coordinated by EO Galliera, involving more than 30 centers all around Europe. Good luck guys!
