Proud to share our latest publication in Dentistry Journal MDPI, a Q1 journal in the Dentistry, Oral Surgery & Medicine category, exploring the role of advanced biomaterials and nanotechnology in dental applications. 🦷

This work investigates electrically charged lipid nanoparticles as innovative biomaterial-based delivery systems, capable of overcoming key limitations of conventional therapies, enhancing pe*******on into dentinal structures, improving biofilm disruption, and enabling sustained antimicrobial release against persistent pathogens such as E. faecalis. 🦠

Although the current evidence remains predominantly preclinical, these findings align with the growing research direction toward smart, bioactive, and targeted biomaterials in dentistry.

Results of collaboration between Universities! Cosimo Galletti

🧠 How much damage can a single false citation cause?

Sometimes more than we imagine.
If unreliable or fabricated studies enter the scientific literature, they can propagate through systematic reviews and meta-analyses, eventually influencing clinical protocols and medical decisions!

A simple but critical concept discussed in my recent publication in Exploration of Medicine.

🔎 Never trust a citation you didn’t verify.

This 37-year-old lady was rushed to the emergency after being butchered by a quack.
She had a a soft, painful swelling on her face, apparently from a dental infection, and went to a quack who disguised as a denta surgeon.
This quack punctured and cut her open, then began pressing and squeezing her face in an attempt to evacuate the content of the swelling. Meanwhile, the woman was screaming in pain. She lost consciousness and was brought to our center. Upon admission, it was discovered that she had poorly controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus, among other conditions. The infection had spread from her face down to her chest, with pus draining in large amounts.
She didn't even have funds for treatment, so our senior resident asked us to make donations to support her care. Her recovery was truly miraculous.

A new article from our research group has just been published (IF 2.3 in 2026), marking the first step in a broader research line focused on the thermal dynamics of dental implant insertion. 🔩

In this study, we collaborated with colleagues from the Department of Engineering at the University of Messina to analyze, through infrared thermography, the temperature changes generated during implant placement under different clinical conditions. The work investigates how factors such as insertion speed, lubrication, and preparation protocolinfluence the thermal behavior at the implant–bone interface.

Thermal control is a crucial yet often underestimated parameter in implant dentistry. Excessive temperature increases during implant site preparation or implant insertion may compromise bone vitality and potentially lead to thermal osteonecrosis, negatively affecting osseointegration and long-term implant success.

By integrating bioengineering tools, thermographic imaging, and experimental protocols, this project aims to better understand the biomechanical and thermal phenomena involved in implant placement and to contribute to the development of safer surgical protocols and improved implant designs.
This publication represents the starting point of a multidisciplinary collaboration between dentistry and engineering, with future studies already planned, including advanced modeling, finite element simulations, and clinical investigations.

📢 New Publication Alert

I am pleased to share my latest scientific publication:

The article has been published in the peer-reviewed journal Exploration of Medicine.
This work contributes to the ongoing scientific discussion of research integrity and responsible scholarship, topics that are becoming increasingly relevant in the contemporary scientific ecosystem, characterized by rapid growth in publication and strong bibliometric pressures.

“Never trust a citation you didn’t verify.”

This simple statement encapsulates one of the essential responsibilities of researchers: ensuring that references are accurate, verified, and contextually appropriate. In an era of exponential growth in the literature and automated manuscript generation, the careful verification of citations remains a cornerstone of research integrity and scientific credibility. Even a single inaccurate or fabricated citation can propagate through the literature and, when incorporated into systematic reviews or meta-analyses, may distort pooled evidence, potentially leading to misleading clinical conclusions and improperly informed medical protocols.
Scientific progress is ultimately based on trust, transparency, and methodological rigor. Ensuring the reliability of citations is therefore not only a technical issue but also an ethical commitment toward the scientific community and society.
I would like to thank the editorial team of Exploration of Medicine for the opportunity to contribute to the scientific dialogue.

A new milestone in our research journey. 🚀

I am pleased to share the publication of our article, “Comparative Analysis of Large Language Models as Decision Support Tools in Oral Pathology”, recently accepted in Scientific Reports (Impact Factor 4.3), part of the Nature Portfolio.

This study provides a structured comparative evaluation of four large language models as adjunctive decision-support systems in oral and maxillofacial pathology, analyzing their concordance with certified pathologists in interpreting 102 histopathological descriptions. The findings highlight both the opportunities and the current limitations of AI-driven tools in complex diagnostic settings, reinforcing a central principle: artificial intelligence must remain complementary to expert clinical judgment, not a substitute for it.

Beyond the results themselves, this publication is the outcome of coordinated international collaboration across institutions in Spain, Italy, India, and Chile. Innovation in contemporary dentistry increasingly depends on structured teamwork, methodological rigor, and continuous dialogue between clinicians, pathologists, and data scientists.

This work also aligns with the broader vision of GORA, promoting high-quality, ethically grounded, and methodologically robust research networks in oral sciences.
Grateful to all co-authors for their commitment and scientific integrity throughout this project. The integration of AI into oral pathology is a developing field, and it must progress with responsibility, validation, and critical oversight.

I am pleased to share our recent publication in the Journal of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery (Q1 journal, Impact Factor 2.1, CiteScore 3.8):

🦴 Clinical, technical, and economic outcomes of 3D-printed bone substitutes in maxillofacial reconstruction: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

This study provides a quantitative synthesis of the available evidence on patient-specific 3D-printed bone substitutes for maxillofacial reconstruction, demonstrating superior bone regeneration, reduced operative time, and a significant economic advantage over traditional techniques, while also highlighting relevant considerations regarding surgical precision.
I am proud to have contributed as a supervisor and as the last author to this international, multidisciplinary collaboration.

A sincere thank you to Javier Flores-Fraile and Artak Heboyan for their outstanding scientific partnership and support ❤️
