Well, that's February almost flown by and this year has already had major surprises!
Creating a successful weight loss programme for Post menopausal women was definitely NOT on my goals list for this year with my main focus on my Holistic wellness retreats in Tuscany and in Spain. What was/is however on my 2024 goal list to be healthy, strong and slim and to have reached that goal by or before the end of June 2024.
I always strive to find the positive side to everything and flip adversities and negative setbacks into something of value. The main adversity I’ve had to face up to and embrace as my new reality is that my post-menopausal body doesn’t react anything like my pre-menopausal body. It’s been like getting to know how my body works all over again. Who can relate?
So, It all started with me looking for solutions to help myself with a serious knee injury that'd left me incapacitated and in a lot of pain. I dislocated and broke my long-suffering knee in two places in a fall 10 months ago. I also set off to lose all the weight I'd piled on thanks to a lethal combo of: the mirky and mysterious other side of menopause, little to no activity compared to before the accident, lack of self-motivation and totally losing the plot on food and wine!
I decided to go back and revise my Rainbow Plan which I'd put into place while reeling from an out of the blue cancer diagnosis in 2018. I'd put together my own plan then because I wanted to be proactive and get my body as strong as possible while I was waiting for the Oncology team to get my therapy sorted. I knew when your body is dealing with cancer treatment and all the terrible side effects it need to be as strong as possible right? I couldn't just wait around and keep my fingers crossed. As a result, in just over 13 weeks I'd gone from a diagnosis of stage 3 SCC, scheduled for clinical trials and combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy to no sign of cancer apart from some low grade pre-cancerous cells…AND I lost 8 kgs into the bargain and looked and felt amazing!
So fast forward back to now and after making some difficult decisions and habit adjustments like giving up wine and meal replacements and a few tweaks applying ground breaking new research and knowledge about the post-menopausal body, I started off on my new plan at the beginning of February. I have dropped 5.2 kgs to date and lost 17cm of volume. Volume =FAT not weight! We want to lose fat and build and maintain lean muscle mass because the more muscle mass we have as we get older the better we perform, look and feel!
The best thing was that within 5 days of starting I was walking normally without any pain, recovering faster after workouts and feeling so good before you could even see a weight difference!
Women at the gym soon started to comment and ask what I’m doing so the sharing began quite naturally and The Rainbow Plan 2.0 has come to be! 5 out of 6 ladies who have started have all lost kgs, cms and significantly reduced aches and pains. The sixth only started 3 days ago so I have no progress track yet but she’s happy and getting on fine.
