There is something very very special about watching thousands of children singing their hearts out. I believe music to be one of the most powerful forms of art, and knowing music in schools is slipping away as we speak calls for action (which is happening, but we still need that security). Young Voices is celebrating its 30th year and over 3million children have sung in its concerts during that time! Young Voices, doesn’t use advertisement like usual to gain traction, it uses tradition, teachers, schools and people who believe in music to continue its success. Music brings people together and forms community and is why I feel evermore passionate about its use in improving wellbeing, by creating spaces for it to be shared!
Young voices is all I’ve ever known, since I was a child it has given me great joy seeing my dad, the conductor, up there (said best by Greg James) “flailing his arms around hoping for the best”, but, no doubt, as I grow older watching YV holds a different meaning. I see the music and singing, being used as a way to enthuse, empower and grow children’s confidence, ambition, self-worth and esteem - things that so many need.
Singing doesn’t have to be scary or complex it just needs to be from the heart 🫶🏻
