A recent report by and showed that 43% of Brits in the UK fail to do at least two strength-based activities a week and 32% did none at all.

Of course, you might say “my parents / grandparents didn’t need to go to the gym so why do I need to think about strength training?” - and that’s a fair point. But, what you have to remember is that 50 years ago, and even 20 years ago, adults and children were all significantly more active. (Before smartphones took over!)

Back in the 1980s, children and teenagers used to build up muscle strength, balance and coordination by playing outside, climbing trees, riding bikes and walking to and from school.

Adults did all their food shopping on foot and carried bags of food home, unloading cans and produce and then prepping every meal by hand. Just pause for a moment and consider how little we now move by ordering in food or buying oven-ready meals. It might not make much difference on ONE day every now and then, but multiply it by 365 days for 50 years and the difference will be huge.

What we’re seeing in our healthcare system now is the result of a few decades of significant inactivity and muscle loss - and with the current use of GLP-1 weight loss drugs, sadly the statistics will continue to go in the wrong direction.

BUT, YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO YOUR HEALTH VERY QUICKLY….

Counteract muscle loss from natural ageing by adding in two strength training sessions a week, ideally in a gym with a personal trainer or coach to track your progress.

And outside of the gym, increase your daily activity through small, sustainable changes - like going on a hilly cliff path walk every weekend, or meeting friends for bike rides, or trying out a new exercise class each month or a new sport every year.

At Healthhaus, our Milon gym circles are the perfect place for people who are new to strength training and want a simple, effective and time-efficient way to workout.

If you’ve lost a bit of new year motivation and are ready to inject some fun into your workouts, then this is for you.

We have four of our Personal Trainers taking part in this offer, so you can find the perfect fit for you and your gym buddy.

PT Paul - Has lots of experience with all kinds of clients and is great if you wish to lose weight, build strength and improve your overall fitness. Paul also runs 2 of our rehab classes, so if you’re recovering from illness or injury, he’s your man.

PT Sam - Has a strength and conditioning background and has worked with athletes and young people. If you have a sporty goal this year, or just want to move better, get in touch with Sam.

PT Karolina - If you want to learn to do pull ups and use barbells effectively and safely, Karolina is your perfect choice. She loves empowering women to feel strong and confident in the gym.

PT Jordan - Our newest and youngest PT, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’ll be an easy workout! Jordan has won bodybuilding competitions and has a lot of personal experience with gaining muscle and adjusting the diet to get leaner.

🧘‍♀️ When you start the week with a guided yoga practice, focusing on breath to movement in a creative flow, you know it's going to be a good week!

Our intermediate Vinyasa Flow Yoga class with Tina will help you to build core strength, balance and mindfulness which helps to nurture a calm mind.

🧘‍♀️ WHO IS THE CLASS BEST SUITED TO?

This yoga class is ideal for those who have had at least a year of yoga practice and are familiar with the transitions from posture to posture.

Regression and progression will be cued throughout the class .

WHAT TIME AND WHERE?

Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Tina is at 4:45pm on Mondays in the Mind Body Studio at Healthhaus. The class is 45 minutes.

I'M NOT A MEMBER, CAN I COME TO THE CLASS?

Yes, non-members are welcome to all our classes and can book on the day if spaces are available. This class costs £10 per person.

I HAVEN'T DONE YOGA BEFORE

If you've never tried a yoga class, or don't have a regular practice, then start with one of our beginner's classes instead. Call 01534 614800 for more details.

NEW CLASS ALERT! We're starting a new Kinesis class on Monday mornings at 9:30am (45 mins) with Simao from Monday 9 February.

This class is a functional, low impact, full body workout using the Kinesis equipment and is suitable for all fitness levels.

The Kinesis machines allow for push, pull, lift and rotate movements that mimic everyday life.

Improve your mobility, posture and coordination with a workout that's gentle on the joints and a lot of fun!

Booking window opens on Tuesday 3 February.
Non-members can book on the day if spaces are available.

Now our fab new website is live, we can at last share with you some great articles from our website blog - starting with 'What's all the fuss about Pilates?' by Alicia Beck, Coach and Tour Manager for Ballet d'Jèrri.

Healthhaus is the proud sponsor of Ballet d'Jèrri, providing Alicia and the incredible dancers memberships at the club and use of the Movement Studio for Equipment Pilates and Gyrotonic.

In her article, Alicia says: "Pilates is for everybody.

You don’t need to be a Ballet dancer to practice it, be good at it, or thrive from it. It’s true dancers make beautiful shapes, but they also have some very bad habits that can restrict and hinder their movement due to muscle imbalances and overuse.

That’s why Pilates is so good for them, and the partnership the dancers of Ballet d’Jèrri are enjoying at the Healthhaus Movement Studio is in line with other top sports men and women around the world."

Healthhaus is seeking a Comprehensive Equipment Pilates Teacher to join our team on a freelance basis. We are looking for a skilled, supportive, and confident teacher to deliver tailored Equipment Pilates sessions for clients of all ages and abilities.

✅Key Responsibilities:

- Deliver engaging and effective Pilates sessions using comprehensive equipment, including Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Barrels, as well as mat Pilates.
- Work confidently with clients of all ages and experience levels.
- Communicate and collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective exercise programs.
- Manage client bookings using our Club software
- Keep client records up to date
- Maintain the required health and safety standards within a Studio environment.

🌟Required Qualifications:

- Comprehensive Equipment Pilates qualification (mandatory).
- Gyrotonic® qualification (beneficial but not essential).

😃 We’re Looking For an Individual who can demonstrate:

- Supportive teaching style and ability to work confidently with people of all ages and experience levels.
- Experience of working with clients with restricted movement or complex needs due to injury, illness or chronic conditions
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to motivate clients.
- Experience liaising with health professionals and integrating recommendations into sessions.

Because personal training really can SAVE LIVES!

We have been watching this client’s progress and are so proud of the work they’ve put in and how committed they’ve been to making long-term changes that have rewritten their future.

There’s a famous quote that says: “If nothing changes, nothing changes.”

And this client is a testament to the fact that however difficult or uncomfortable the effort may be - especially at the start - it’s ALWAYS worth the journey.

Improving your health isn’t a one time fix, it’s an on-going process of micro choices every single day.

And those small decisions all add up, taking you closer or further away from your goals, depending on which you choose.

Remember: supporting your long term health and reducing risk of disease should never be about restriction, guilt or shame, but about all the ways you ‘get’ to move your muscles and nourish your body.
