🎄 A Huge Thank You to Appleby! 🎄
We are so grateful to Appleby for their incredible generosity in supporting Family Nursing & Home Care this Christmas. Thanks to their kindness, 80 beautifully packaged mugs filled with tea, coffee (and a little festive treat!) will be gifted to the adults who access our services this holiday season.

FOCUS ON FRAILTY Week 5 - V is for Vital Signs

As we get older, natural changes happen in our bodies. Spotting these changes early—through regular health checks, screening, and monitoring long-term conditions—can help prevent or reduce frailty and support healthier ageing.

What can you do?
✔ Attend annual GP health checks and reviews for long-term conditions
✔ Have a structured medication review to make sure your medicines are still right for you
✔ Stay up to date with vaccinations, including Flu and COVID
✔ Have the shingles vaccination if you are eligible
✔ Attend routine vision and hearing checks

Looking after your vital signs today can help you stay independent and well for longer.
Our Frailty team spoke to Alison Moss on BBC Radio Jersey this morning about vital signs and also the importance of 'life admin'. Listen back on BBC Sounds - link below 👇👇👇

FOCUS ON FRAILTY Week 4 - I is for Interaction

Listen in to BBC Radio Jersey tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10.40am for this week's Focus On Frailty 📻📻

Social isolation and loneliness can affect wellbeing, mental health, and even contribute to frailty — especially in older adults.

Depression is common in people over 65. It can be linked to bereavement, pain, loss of confidence, long-term conditions, financial worries, moving into care, or alcohol/drug use.
Symptoms aren’t always obvious and may be mistaken for tiredness, pain, or confusion.

💡 What can help?
• Connect with others
• Move more throughout the day
• Learn something new or try a hobby
• Give to others — kindness boosts wellbeing
• Practise mindfulness
• Prioritise good sleep
• Eat a balanced diet
• Keep alcohol within recommended limits

If you’re worried about your mental health — or someone else’s — speak to your GP. Support may include talking therapies, social prescribing, or antidepressants.

🔍FOCUS ON FRAILTY Week 3 – T is for Thrive🤩

This morning Paul and Kathryn from our Frailty team chatted to BBC Radio Jersey's Alison Moss about the importance of thriving - staying active, engaged, and connected — not just living, but truly flourishing.

Keeping up with hobbies and interests brings enjoyment and helps keep your mind sharp — it’s like “stretching your brain.” Think of it as being proactive in reducing the risk of frailty in the future.

If you feel you’re not thriving, consider whether anything may be getting in the way, such as hearing or vision issues, and get these checked. These senses are essential for staying engaged and connected with others.

The same advice that supports a healthy heart also helps you thrive:
• Eat a balanced diet
• Stay physically active
• Stop smoking

Maintaining a positive mindset and reducing stress is also important. Try deep breathing exercises, mindfulness, gentle activity, or other calming techniques to help keep stress levels in check.

There are many ways to stay connected in Jersey, including local clubs such as Good Companions or Age Concern. There are also helpful online resources from Dementia Jersey, as well as Connect Me: Elemental, where you can explore a wide range of local activities.
