From humble beginnings, Monica Shakespeare started her cosmetology career in 1979. Starting with one piece of salon equipment in a small space, Monica grew her business with her talent and superb customer service and expanded her salon. She is still at the same spot where she opened business all those years ago, at Shop 22, Central Plaza, Half Way Tree – Monique’s Beauty Home. With her demanding clientele, Monica started travelling more and attracted even more clients with her skill and endearing persona. She eventually hired a manager for her local operations but it became too demanding balancing family life and business and eventually downsized. She started a salon in Atlanta at which point she noticed that many of her clients suffered from alopecia (hair loss) and decided to further her education specializing in that field. Several determining factors popped up including improper diet, medication, hair follicle strain from braids but the main causes were from cancer treatment and stress. Monica decided to go a step further by developing her own line of products specifically suited to African hair using natural products and remedies. She collaborates with colleagues in the industry for quality control to ensure her clients get the best treatment for their condition possible. Monica Shakespeare has been featured in several Jamaican publications and her client roster reads like a who’s who of celebrity.
