So many of us have been impacted by hurricane Mellisa and access to clean potable water is one of the key challenges we face. Here is how to make water safe and keep your family healthy. If it is cloudy let it settle. Pour off the clean portion and either boil it or add bleach to make safe water Safe water is used to wash hands, wash fruits, cook, bathe baby, prepare formula and for drinking. Boiling the water is best however if you are unable to boil the water then use: 1/8th of a teaspoon of bleach for 1 gallon of water (measure half a teaspoon, discard half of that leaving you with 1/4 teaspoon, discard half of that and you will have 1/8th of a teaspoon) 1/2 a teaspoon for 5 gallons 2.5 tablespoons for 77 gallons Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
