The Director Dr John Harriott at today's "Below the Belt" shared that diagnosing endometriosis in adolescents remains a challenge.
For those not sexually active, a transvaginal ultrasound is often not suitable - limiting early detection and delaying care.

Heavy or painful periods aren’t something you should just “live with.” It could be adenomyosis, a common condition where the lining of the womb grows into the muscle of the uterus, causing symptoms like heavy bleeding, severe cramps, and pelvic pain.

The good news? Adenomyosis is treatable.

Getting the right care can greatly improve your quality of life.

Many people have heard of endometriosis, but what about adenomyosis? 🤔 While both conditions involve endometrial tissue and share similar symptoms, they are not the same.

Adenomyosis occurs when endometrial tissue grows within the muscular wall of the uterus, often leading to heavy, painful periods and an enlarged uterus.

Endometriosis happens when similar tissue grows outside the uterus, causing pelvic pain, infertility, ovarian cysts, and adhesions.
Different conditions. Similar symptoms. Call us at 876-927-2481 or WhatsApp at 876-276-6030 to schedule a consultation with our doctors. We can help!.

Cervical cancer mainly affects women, but the virus that causes it, called Human Papillomavirus (HPV), can infect anyone, both males and females.

HPV is very common and is linked to several other types of cancer. Because of this, it's recommended that both boys and girls get the HPV vaccine, ideally between the ages of 9 and 14, before they might come into contact with the virus.

Even if someone gets vaccinated, it’s still really important for women to have 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 like 𝗣𝗮𝗽 𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗣𝗩 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. These tests help detect issues early, which can prevent cervical cancer and potentially save lives.

If you have questions about the HPV vaccine or cervical cancer screenings, please talk to your doctor or call the Colposcopy Unit at 876-801-1043 today.

Adenomyosis is a condition where the lining of the uterus grows into its muscular wall, causing heavy periods and intense pelvic pain. Often overshadowed by endometriosis, it remains widely underdiagnosed. Raising awareness helps women recognise symptoms, seek timely care, and understand the difference between these two conditions. Knowledge is power. 💛
