Hurricane Melissa left more than destruction. It pushed countless women in Jamaica into hardship without homes, safety, or access to the essentials they need for their health and dignity.

Let’s talk about the less obvious signs of diastasis recti!

Yes, we already know that it can cause a lingering belly bulge but the effects go far deeper than just appearance.

Here are 5 things diastasis recti can affect that most women don’t hear about:

1️⃣ Low back pain: Your core is your foundation. When it’s not functioning properly, your back takes the hit.

2️⃣ Leaking when sneezing, coughing or laughing. DRA and pelvic floor issues are often seen together.

3️⃣ Poor posture: That slumped, unsupported feeling? It’s all can come from a weakened core from DRA.

Ever notice a weird little bulge in your belly when you sit up or do certain exercises or activities?

That might be something called coning or doming, and it’s often a sign of diastasis recti abdominis (DRA)

DRA is a separation of the abdominal wall that’s especially common after pregnancy.

It usually shows up as a long raised area in the middle of your abdomen when you’re:

• Sitting up from a lying position
• Lifting something heavy
• Planking or doing crunches
• Even laughing or coughing in some cases!

When this happens, it’s your body’s way of saying:

“Hey! I don’t have the all support I need here! Get me some help!”
