HEART SMART CENTRE GOES RED! As we Celebrate Sweet 16!

On April 01, 2009 we opened our doors at Shop 36 Freeport Shopping Centre. On April 02, 2009 I saw my first patient. Over the past 16 years our practice has grown from a part-time practice seeing 1-2 patients two afternoons per week, with me and one practical nurse - Niketa. Today our practice is established at our purposefully designed location at GWEST centre, with over 20,000 registered patients. Some of these patients have been seeing me from 2009 and some were given a prognosis months and are still here 6 years later!

It is with immense gratitude that I take this time to pause and recognise the patients who have entrusted me to care for them, the doctors who refer their patients to me and trust my expertise and guidance. Our incredible team, whom we have endeavoured to train and certify to the highest levels of competence & to embody of core value of hospitality and compassion.

As we celebrate this milestone, we also raise awareness for the disparity in heart heath care for women through our support of the American Heart Associations campaign. We held our Women’s heart health screening fair February for Go Red Day, and we continue to champion this cause locally.

is observed each year on September 29th. We have tried to use this day to do our part in raising awareness about hearth health.

Heart disease remains the number one cause of illness & death worldwide. The is calling on all countries to establish a National Cardiovascular Action Plan to combat heart disease, the leading cause of death worldwide. Up to 80% of deaths from heart attacks and strokes are preventable. Yet, our early findings reveal that only 7% of countries have standalone plans for cardiovascular disease, while 87% have established National Cancer Action Plans.

We urgently need progress in cardiovascular health. Our goal is to gather over a million signatures to urge elected leaders to make a bold political declaration at the United Nations High-Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases in 2025.
