Pioneering change for the residences of St. Catherine, Amadeo Medical Center opened its doors in 2006, with a private technologically advanced laparoscopic surgical-center and multifunctional health care facility. Originating from the vision of Dr. Charles Rockhead, Consultant Gynecologist and Obstetrician, to make available exceptional noninvasive medical services to rural Jamaica.
Amadeo Medical Center houses consultantâs offices, examination rooms, diagnostic testing and a completely equipped operating theatre outfitted with laparoscopic equipment, including a Harmonic Scalpel ⢠and LigaSureâ˘. Second only to the University Hospital of the West Indies, we undertake numerous laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries monthly.

Amadeo Medical Center offers onsite specimen collection which functions in tandem with Microlabs for analysis and reporting. Cardiology diagnostics are also performed onsite with digital electrocardiographs (EKG) and echocardiograms (ECG). To guarantee real-time patient care, alliances with radiology, nuclear, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) centers, have been established islandwide. Recently we have included plastic surgeries, with focused attention on abdominoplasty (Tummy Tucks). Bariatric solutions and fertility management have also been added to our repertoire. At present, Dr. Alfred Dawes, renowned Consultant Bariatric, Laparoscopic and General Surgeon, has established his practice at Amadeo Medical Center. Other general surgeons have also begun utilizing our facility and have clearly expressed endorsement that our state-of-the-art equipment, economical facility fees, efficient service, and comfortable convenience far supersedes the services provided by centers in Kingston.
Our friendly and efficient team of nurses ensure the comfort, safety and care of every patient in an effortless manner. We continue to provide innovative medical service to Jamaicans and the wider Caribbean. Our patients, now in excess of 30,000, are expertly managed by our skilled clerical staff through a fully automated records system, which facilitates efficiencies in services offered and document retrieval.
The Future
As Amadeo Medical Center continues to expand we have realized the need for a second location. Rising to that demand, plans are afoot to embark on providing a Laparoscopic Surgery Centre in the heart of Kingston, Jamaica, which will house four operating theatres, a radiology department and laboratory, along with consultation offices. This new facility will continue to offer the expected high standards of medical technology and services to our patients. This center of excellence will also provide accredited medical training for Jamaican and CARICOM nationals in laparoscopy and other advanced techniques in medicine.
