World Health Organization Jordan

World Health Organization Jordan Since 1985 WHO Jordan has been at the forefront of a number of different health initiatives and projects.

The WHO Representative’s Office in Jordan supports the Government and health authorities at central and local level in strengthening health services, addressing public health issues and supporting and promoting research for health. Physicians, public health specialists, scientists, social scientists and epidemiologists provide appropriate technical support and collaboration upon the request or acceptance of national authorities. As the lead health agency, WHO works with many partners to support countries in reaching their national health development goals and to ensure that its efforts are coordinated. Across the Region, these include United Nations agencies, humanitarian and development partners, donors, nongovernmental organizations, WHO collaborating centres and the private sector. For 27 years it has garnered scientific evidence, promoted global strategies for eradication, elimination or prevention, and identified potential outbreaks. WHO provides technical support to the Ministry of Health in Jordan to:

*support appropriate evidence-based national health policies, strategies and plans

*strengthen national human resources development, planning, production and utilization

*enhance knowledge transfer and management, institutionalization of mortality and morbidity systems

*develop a fair sustainable health financing system covering all of the population
support health promotion, disease prevention activities

*strengthen national emergency-preparedness plans and strategies. Though challenges still remain, WHO has become a well-established and successful health entity, striving to improve governmental health policy and promoting universal health care in Jordan.

It’s

Obesity is a chronic disease defined by excess fat deposits that impair health.

Around one third of women👩🏽(35%), nearly a quarter of men👨🏽(23%) and 11% of school-aged children and adolescents👦🏽👧🏽are obese, while 27% of adolescents are overweight

Obesity occurs when the body stores excess fat that may impair health.

This complex condition can stem from various factors:

🔵a high-calorie diet
🔵eating food high in fat and sugar
🔵lack of physical activity
🔵genetics
🔵certain health conditions like hypothyroidism, Cushing’s syndrome etc.

Health consequences of obesity include:

🔵cardiovascular diseases: stroke and heart disease
🔵diabetes
🔵some types of cancer: endometrial, breast, ovarian and prostate
🔵musculoskeletal disorders

Obesity can affect mental health, increasing the risk of depression and low self-esteem

To reduce obesity:

🔵limit your energy intake from fats and sugar
🔵increase your consumption of fruits and vegetables
🔵engage in regular physical activity🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️🧘🏽‍♀️🧘🏽‍♂️🚴🏽‍♀️🚴🏽‍♂️

السمنة تشكل قضية صحية رئيسية في إقليم منظمة الصحة العالمية لشرق المتوسط.

ويعاني حوالي ثلث النساء (35%)، وربع الرجال تقريبًا (23%)، وكذلك 11% من الأطفال والمراهقين في سِن المدرسة، من السمنة، في حين يعاني 27% من المراهقين من زيادة الوزن.

ويمكن أن تنشأ هذه الحالة المعقدة من عوامل مختلفة:

🔵نظام غذائي عالي السعرات الحرارية
🔵تناول طعام غني بالدهون والسكر
🔵قلة النشاط البدني
🔵العوامل الوراثية
🔵حالات صحية معينة مثل قصور الغدة الدرقية، ومتلازمة كوشينغ، وما إلى ذلك.

تشمل العواقب الطبية للسمنة ما يلي:

🔵أمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية: السكتة وأمراض القلب
🔵مرض السكري‬
🔵بعض أنواع السرطان: بطانة الرحم والثدي والمبيض والبروستاتا
🔵الاضطرابات العضلية الهيكلية

يمكن أن تؤثر السمنة على الصحة النفسية، وتزيد من خطر الإصابة بالاكتئاب وعدم احترام الذات.

للحد من #السمنة،

🔵قلل من استهلاكك للطاقة من الدهون والسكر
🔵احرص على زيادة استهلاكك للفواكه والخضروات
🔵مارس النشاط البدني بانتظام
