【論文】勝間研究科長らによるマイクロプラスティックに対する意識に関する論文が公開されました

マイクロプラスティックに関する意識調査についてのシステマティックレビューを行いました。
マイクロプラスティックによって健康に悪影響があるという認識は広がっており、特に性別や教育歴が関連していることが示されました。

We reviewed 70 research articles and analyzed factors influencing microplastic perception and their implications for the SDGs.
Education and gender are the most significant factors shaping microplastics perception.

【その他】日本に本部がある唯一の国連機関である国連大学が50周年を迎え、天皇皇后両陛下ご臨席のもと、記念式典開催

2025年9月18日、国連のシンクタンクである国連大学の50周年を祝う記念式典が開催されました。グテーレス国連事務総長のビデオメッセージ、マルワラ国連大学学長の挨拶に続いて、天皇陛下がおことばを述べられた後、岩屋外務大臣、あべ文部科学大臣、浅尾環境大臣、小池東京都知事から祝辞があり、地球規模の課題が深刻さを増すなか日本と国連大学が連携して国際社会の平和とサステイナビリティへ貢献していくことの意義が表明されました。

記念式典の後、マルワラ国連大学学長と沖東京大学教授が「デジタル革命と水」と題して対談しました。その後、天皇皇后両陛下は、国連大学サステイナビリティ高等研究所に在籍する14か国からの大学院生16人と懇談しました。

[Publication] A new paper by Dr. Taniguchi et al. has been published in Respiratory Medicine.
Using the nationwide inpatient registry for COVID-19 in Japan, we examined the clinical characteristics, outcomes, and predictors of in-hospital death among patients under 65 years old who required invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). Approximately 10% of these patients died during hospitalization, while nearly half of those discharged alive required oxygen therapy at the time of discharge. We also identified several predictors of in-hospital death, including multiple comorbidities.

【論文】侵襲的機械換気を受けた65才未満のCOVID-19患者における予後の関連要因についての論文が公開
日本全国規模のCOVID-19レジストリデータを用いて、COVID-19で侵襲的機械換気を受けた65歳未満の患者における予後および院内死亡の関連要因を明らかにしました。
研究対象者728名の10%が入院中に死亡し、生存退院した患者の約半数が退院時に酸素投与を必要としていました。また併存疾患等、院内死亡に関連する要因が明らかになりました。

[Publication] COVID-19-specific prefectural hospital bed utilization rate and in-hospital mortality among COVID-19 patients throughout the first three years of the pandemic in Japan.

New study by Kimura et al. finds the positive association between COVID-19-specific prefectural hospital bed utilization rate and in-hospital mortality among COVID-19 patients in Japan.

We examined the association between the COVID-19-specific prefectural bed utilization rate and in-hospital mortality across the first three years of the pandemic in Japan (May 2020–November 2022).

Key findings include:
• Higher COVID-19 bed utilization rate (BUR) was significantly associated with higher in-hospital mortality. Compared to BUR below 25%, odds ratios (ORs) for mortality were:
o 1.35 (95% (Confidence Interval) CI: 1.19–1.54) for 25–50% BUR
o 1.89 (95% CI: 1.66–2.16) for 50–75% BUR
o 2.16 (95% CI: 1.80–2.58) for BUR above 75%
• The association was especially pronounced among patients under 70 and during the 4th (Alpha variant) and 6th (Omicron variant) waves.
• Findings highlight the importance of avoiding hospital strain to reduce preventable mortality during public health emergencies.

【論文】木村客員研究員・細澤主任研究員らによるCOVID-19パンデミック下における都道府県別COVID-19病床使用率とCOVID-19患者の院内死亡率との関連に関する論文が公開されました。

日本のCOVID-19パンデミック下（2020年5月～2022年11月）における入院先の都道府県のCOVID-19病床使用率とCOVID-19患者の院内死亡率との関連を検討した。
・COVID-19病床使用率が上昇するほど全院内死亡率も上昇し、病床使用率25%未満と比べて25%~50%未満でOR 1.35（95%CI 1.19-1.54）、50%~75%未満でOR 1.89（95%CI 1.66-2.16）、75%以上でOR 2.16（95%CI 1.80-2.58）であった。
・この関連は、70歳未満の若年層、および、新規変異株が出現した第4波（アルファ株流行期）と第6波（オミクロン株流行期）で強かった。
・パンデミック時には、病床逼迫を防ぐことが関連院内死亡を軽減するためにも重要な公衆衛生戦略であることが示された。

Original English article by Senior Research Scientist Muto et al. ‘Post COVID-19 condition in hospitalised survivors after one year of infection during the Alpha- and Delta-variant dominant waves in Japan: COVID-19 Recovery Study Ⅱ’ is now available in Journal of Epidemiology.
A total of 1,040 patients aged 20 years or older who contracted COVID-19 between April and September 2021 (the so-called fourth and fifth waves) and were hospitalised and discharged alive from 20 collaborating institutions were included in the study. Approximately 1 year after infection, a self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted to analyze post-illness symptoms and associated factors and their association with mental health.
● At approximately 1 year after infection: 45% of those with COVID-19 post-illness symptoms
● Main symptoms: shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle weakness, poor concentration, sleep disturbances, brain fog
● Post-illness symptomatic patients: about 4 times more likely to have symptoms of anxiety and depression than those without post-illness symptoms
● Factors associated with post-illness symptoms at 1 year: age 40+, female, COVID-19 severity at admission, past smoker, and infection during delta epidemic

【論文】六藤上級研究員らによるアルファ株・デルタ株流行期のCOVID-19入院患者における１年後の罹患後症状に関する英文原著論文が公開
2021年4～9月（いわゆる第４、５波）にCOVID-19に罹患し、共同研究機関20施設に入院し生存退院した20歳以上の患者1,040人を調査対象とした。感染から約1年後に自記式質問調査を行い、罹患後症状とその関連因子、メンタルヘルスとの関連について分析を行った。
罹患から約１年後時点で、COVID-19罹患後症状を有していた人の割合は45%
主な症状は、息切れ、倦怠感、筋力低下、集中力の低下、睡眠障害、ブレインフォグ
罹患後症状がある人では、罹患後症状のない人の約４倍の割合で不安やうつの症状有り
１年後時点の罹患後症状と関連因子は、40歳以上、女性、入院時のCOVID-19重症度、過去喫煙者、感染時期がデルタ株流行期

This study evaluated the association between booster vaccinations and post–COVID-19 condition among 7,936 adults aged 20 to 69 years diagnosed with COVID-19 between July and August 2022 in Shinagawa City, Tokyo.

• The frequency of post–COVID-19 condition was 11.8%.
• Those vaccinated ≥3 times had a lower risk of post COVID-19 condition than unvaccinated participants.
• The association with booster vaccinations was significant in those who had neurological symptoms.
This study suggested that booster vaccination may reduce a risk of developing post COVID-19 condition.

【論文】磯センター長、射場上級研究員らによるオミクロン株流行期のCOVID-19感染後の罹患後症状とワクチン接種の関連に関する論文が公開されました。
この研究では、2022年7〜8月（いわゆる第７波）にCOVID-19に罹患しHER-SYSに登録された東京都品川区在住の20〜69歳までの患者7,936人を対象として、感染後約6ヶ月後に自記式質問調査を行い、COVID-19ワクチンの接種回数・時期と罹患後症状との関連を分析しました。その結果
＊対象者のうち罹患後症状を有していた人の割合は11.8%でした。
＊ワクチン非接種者と比較して、3回以上接種した人において罹患後症状の頻度が低いことがわかりました。
＊このワクチン接種との関連は、罹患後症状のうち神経症状で明らかでした。
この結果から、ブースターワクチンが罹患後症状のリスクを低減する可能性が示されました。
