The 7th Edition of the Hospital Standards is planned for publication on 1 April 2020 with an effective date of 1 October 2020.
In November of 2018, several in-person focus groups were conducted in United Arab Emirates and Egypt with the purpose of obtaining feedback on the JCI Standards for Hospitals. Participants in these sessions were asked to provide feedback on various topics including
Laser safety
Palliative care
Hemodialysis water quality and equipment safety
Interventional radiology and diagnostic imaging services
Facility requirements and fire safety
The first conference call focus groups have been planned for mid-March with several JCI accredited organizations in Ireland, the Netherlands, Thailand, and Singapore. The conference calls will seek to obtain feedback on topics such as
Changes to the International Patient Safety Goals, including;
Requiring the use of bundles in IPSG.5 to reduce the risk of infection
Adding an IPSG that addresses su***de prevention
Exploring the addition of a chronic/complex disease management program
Addressing alarm management, including alarm fatigue
Identifying issues associated with changes in information technology
Additional methods for obtaining input are being planned for later in April and May. Data gathered from focus groups will be merged with information from literature reviews, current industry standards, and practice recommendations to direct revisions on the standards.
