🌏 ATLAS-ARISE-PMDA Symposium: Building a United Asian Clinical Trial Ecosystem
On 3 October 2025, the ATLAS-ARISE-PMDA Symposium was successfully held at Hotel Okura Bangkok under the theme “Building a United Asian Clinical Trial Ecosystem.”
This symposium was hosted by ATLAS in collaboration with ARISE and PMDA.
The event brought together around 100 participants from across Asia, including distinguished guests — Prof. Takemi Keizo, Senior Fellow, Japan Center for International Exchanges, and H.E. Mr. Masato Ohtaka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Thailand — who honored us with inspiring opening remarks.
The symposium aimed to unite three key stakeholders in clinical development:
1️⃣ ATLAS, an initiative led by the National Cancer Center Hospital (NCCH) to advance international oncology trials.
2️⃣ ARISE, an initiative promoted by the Japan Initiative for Global Health and Medicine (JIH) to foster multinational trials in infectious diseases.
3️⃣ PMDA, Japan’s regulatory authority for pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
Through this event, representatives from academia, industry, and regulatory authorities shared perspectives on strengthening collaboration and accelerating the delivery of innovative treatments to patients across Asia.
We sincerely thank all speakers, panelists, and participants for making this event a great success.

As part of the ATLAS Project audit activities, the ATLAS Team from the National Cancer Center Japan visited Hospital Pulau Pinang.
The team met with Dr. Soo Hoo Hwoei Fen, Ms.Nur Madihah binti Yaakob and Ms. Nurun Nadihah binti Norazam to discuss the current progress of clinical research at the site and explore future directions to further enhance ATLAS initiatives.
We appreciate the valuable insights and strong collaboration from our colleagues at Hospital Pulau Pinang, contributing to the advancement of cancer research across Asia.

国立がん研究センターのATLASチームは、ATLASプロジェクトの監査の一環として、マレーシアのHospital Pulau Pinangを訪問しました。

The ATLAS Sarcoma and Rare Cancer Group held its regular meeting.

Members reported on the progress of each ongoing project and engaged in active discussion on new research proposals. The group continues to work together to accelerate collaborative research in sarcoma and other rare cancers, with the shared goal of improving outcomes for patients.

We appreciate the strong commitment of all participating teams and institutions within ATLAS.

The ATLAS Team from the National Cancer Center Japan carried out an on-site audit at Hospital Umum Sarawak.
During the visit, the team met with Principal Investigator Dr. Voon Pei Jye, Site Investigator Dr. Ang Choon Seong, as well as Study Coordinators Ms. Irene Bragai Ak Segaran and Ms. Nur Haziqah Mesran.
Together, we reviewed the current status of clinical research at the site and discussed concrete steps to further strengthen ATLAS activities in Sarawak.
We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Ms. Shakirin Kamaruzaman from CRM for her coordination and support across all site visits.

Dr. Yuta Sekino from ATLAS Team visited Hospital Sultan Ismail Johor Bahru (HSIJB) for the ATLAS Project audit.
During the visit, we held in-depth discussions with Principal Investigator Dr. Chen May Feng and her team (Mr. Ahmad Firdaus Abdul Khalid and Ms. Narmatha Gurumoorthy) on the current status of clinical research at the site and how to further enhance ATLAS activities.
We appreciate the strong collaboration and commitment of our partners at HSIJB as we work together to advance cancer research in Asia.

We were honored to welcome Dr. Kota Katanoda, Division Chief of the Division of Population Data Science, Institute for Cancer Control, National Cancer Center Japan.

During the visit to APO, we had the opportunity to present our ongoing activities and discuss how data-driven cancer control and population-level evidence can support collaborative efforts in the region.

We look forward to future collaboration in cancer control and data science across Asia.

The ATLAS Sarcoma and Rare Cancer Group (ATLAS SRCG) joined the EORTC Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcoma Group (STBSG) meeting to discuss future collaboration.

Dr. Tom Chen, Dr. Shintaro Iwata, Dr. Valerie Yang, and Dr. Yuta Sekino represented ATLAS and took part in active discussions on how we can work together to accelerate new clinical trials in sarcoma.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to Winan, EORTC STBSG team, ATLAS SRCG team, and to Dr. Tetsuya Sekita (JCOG, currently seconded to EORTC),
