Japan Meditation Group

Japan Meditation Group The Japan Meditation Group is the support group for meditators in Japan to find each other and meditate together. There are no rules here. I wish you all well.

Welcome and thank you for joining the Japan Meditation Group. Now that we have a growing number of members joining the group I felt that it would be useful for me to introduce why this group was created and suggest ways that we might all start using and benefiting from it. Quite simply I have tried to create a space where local meditators in Japan can come together, share and meet with the intention of deepening our practice in mediation. It is hoped that by keeping this group open, flexible, forever changing and based in the moment it will empower us all as a community to benefit likewise. Please feel free to comment here about any matters that you feel might benefit local meditators; information, resources and suggestions for local meetings would be most welcomed. With this in mind please also visit the community's InsightTimer Japan Mediation Group. May your day be bright and your heart be happy. Grant (Gyalwa)

A wonderful presentation of one "mind map" as experienced consciously through meditation and inevitably and often unconsciously through sleep and death.
For the Vipassana meditators out there this presentation may also prove useful to show why meditation upon sensation in the initial stages of awakening is so crucial. Metta 🙏❤️🙏

Just got this from meditation instructor Kenneth Folk ... "You are unenlightened to the extent that you are embedded in your experience. You think that your experience is you. You must dis-embed. Do this by taking each aspect of experience as object (looking at it and recognizing it) in a systematic way. Then, surrender entirely."

He goes on to recommend the following:

Do these practices, exactly as written:

First Gear .....

Objectify body sensations. If you can name them, you’re not embedded there. Notice sensations and note to yourself: “Pressure, tightness, tension, release, coolness, warmth, softness, hardness, tingling, itching, burning, stinging, pulsing, throbbing, seeing, tasting, smelling, hearing.” If I am looking at something it is not “I”.

Objectify feeling-tone. Are sensations pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral? If you can sit quietly and attentively for five minutes and note pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral every few seconds, you are not embedded at that layer of mind.

Objectify mind states. Investigation, curiosity, happiness, anxiety, amusement, sadness, joy, anger, frustration, annoyance, irritation, aversion, desire, disgust, fear, worry, calm, embarrassment, shame, self-pity, compassion, love, contentment, dullness, sleepiness, bliss, exhilaration, triumph, self-loathing. Name them and be free of them. These mind states are not “you;” we know this because if there is a “you” it is the one who is looking, not what is being looked at. Below, we will challenge the notion that there is any “you” at all.

Objectify thoughts. Categorize them: planning thought, anticipating thought, worrying thought, imaging thought, remembering thought, rehearsing thought, scenario spinning thought, fantasy thought, self-recrimination thought. Come up with your own vocabulary and see your thoughts as though they belong to someone else. The content of your thoughts is not relevant except to the extent that it helps you to label and therefore objectify them.

Second Gear .....

Objectify the apparent subject. Who am “I”? Turn the light of attention back on itself. Who knows about this experience? Are you causing this experience in this moment? To whom is this happening?

Third Gear .....

Surrender entirely. This moment is as it is, with or without your participation. This does not mean that you must be passive. Surrender also to activity.

If we hope to be liberated of hate, greed, delusion malevolence, envy, fear and all that defile the mind, it is imperative that we set aside all imagination, emotional devotion and old accepted dogmas and learn to live in the present moment as it is.
To live in the reality of the moment is to live in the present.
