This event was sold out before I even officially announced it! Because who wouldn’t want to explore nature in the dark with magical lanterns on Winter Solstice? Intrigued? If there is enough interest I’m considering facilitating a second one on the January New Moon 🌑, the darkest first night of the year, where intention setting is magically aligned. Keep in mind it will be CHILLY🥶 ! But if you dress warm and are curious either comment below with INTERESTED or send me a dm. ✨

Why have I not made my own wreath each year for Winter Solstice? ✨ This will be my new ritual for preparing for the darkest day each year as a symbol to returning to the light. The solstice wreath represents the return of Spring to come. 🌱

A special thank you to my friend Yuko for showing me her own handmade wreath for inspiration. And my kitchen smells amazing from this time spent partnering with nature to create beauty and meaning.

Ritual coiled basket with Tussar “raw/wild” silk and indigo dyed thread. Working with materials from nature that have very little processing allows me that feeling of being close to the land and the people who harvested, spun, and dyed these materials. I love the rough rawness of this silk produced from the closest layer to the silk work in the cocoon and done without harm to the worm itself.

What a delightful community gathering at in Meguro where participants engaged in postcard and letter writing in the company of others. Human connection through shared stories and explored written words meant less time spent engaging with tech and screens.

Special thanks to for the beautiful space, to the hard workers making yummy drinks and nibbles at and to and for providing snazzy smartphone nap-sacks for our devices to take a nap!

The Slow Life Experience

About Michelle...

Michelle has been teaching yoga and mindfulness for over ten years emphasizing the principles of slowing down and being present with the complex experiences of being human. Michelle's intersection with yoga and meditation came in her late twenties after being diagnosed with cancer and spending two years navigating balance in the midst of a life-threatening disease. In addition to battling a terminal illness Michelle has experienced trauma and loss in her own life. She credits yoga and mindfulness for giving her the tools to self-regulate and manage her stress in times of grief, fear, and vulnerability. Michelle believes her yoga and meditation practices have improved her ability to become a better listener of herself and others while also teaching her the humble practice of acceptance.

With a masters degree in Mental Health Counseling focused on somatic psychology for trauma, Michelle's style of teaching is trauma-informed, person-centered, and fully accepting of all individuals from all walks of life. Michelle has worked as a internationally certified yoga therapist both in private practice and in clinical settings with her focus primarily on clients who have navigated trauma, grief, and loss. This includes working with active duty military members and individuals who are living with spinal cord injury, brain injury, cancer, chronic and life-threatening diseases, anxiety, depression, and chronic stress.

Michelle specializes in training yoga teachers at all levels in their careers. She continues to provide trainings, workshops, and retreats in Asia and the United States in Yin Yoga, Trauma-Informed Yoga Teaching, Yoga Ethics, Mindfulness Practices, Somatic Practices, and Meditation.
