Tenwek Hospital Community Health and Development was established in 1983 after a realization that a majority of the cases that were presented at the hospital could be prevented before they became a serious problem.

Today marks a powerful milestone at Tenwek Hospital Community Health and Development!
12 incredible students from vulnerable communities just graduated from our Threads of Hope tailoring program—equipped not just with skills, but with HOPE and opportunity!
After 11 transformative months of training, each graduate walked away with:
✅ A Certificate of Completion
✅ Their own sewing machine
✅ A Start-up kit
✅ The power to change their story
These graduates from Cohorts 10 & 11 join 56 skilled tailors we've trained since inception—56 lives transformed, 56 families empowered, 56 futures rewritten!
This incredible journey wouldn't be possible without our partners @ AGC Bethesda and the unwavering support of Friends of Tenwek. Together, we're not just teaching tailoring; we're weaving dignity, independence, and sustainable livelihoods into our community.

Tenwek Hospital Community Health and Development trained field staff last week to strengthen support for farmers under the Agro-ecology program.

Our goal is simple.

• Help you improve soil health.
• Help you increase crop production.
• Help you make informed decisions on your farm.

We partnered with CROPNUTS to equip our team with practical skills in soil testing. This will enable staff to advise farmers on what their soils require and how to improve them.

Why this matters to you:

• Soil with the right nutrients supports stronger plant growth.
• Soil stores carbon, which helps reduce greenhouse gases.
• Healthy soil increases food production and strengthens food security.
• Soil filters and holds water, supporting crops even during dry periods.
• Soil hosts organisms that improve nutrient cycling and support pest control.

In a powerful display of learning in action, Grade 9 learners—the first cohort under Kenya’s new education system—are leaving their schools with a lasting symbol of growth and hope.

Through Tenwek Hospital’s Community Health and Development Department under the 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐇 & 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦, learners from five Junior Secondary Schools — 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐭, 𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐭, 𝐊𝐨𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐰𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲, and 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐢 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 — planted 500 trees as a commemorative activity.

This initiative was made possible through a meaningful partnership with Waterlines Organization, which is planting trees in honour of 𝐈𝐯𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, 𝐙𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐣𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐳 — a gesture that blends remembrance, learning, and environmental stewardship.

At Mulot Junior Secondary, Head Teacher Mr. Kosgei expressed gratitude, saying,
“𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘨𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.”

At Emitiot, Head Teacher Mrs. Langat shared,
“𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦; 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦.”

At Koitabsilibwet, Ms. Agnes reflected,
“𝘌𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦—𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦.”

One proud leaner summed up the spirit of the day,

🌱 Planting Legacies, Growing Futures: Junior Learners Mark a New Chapter with Purpose
In a powerful display of learning in action, Grade 9 learners—the first cohort under Kenya's new education system—are leaving their schools with a lasting symbol of growth and hope.
Through Tenwek Hospital's Community Health and Development Department under the WASH & Agroecology Program, learners from five Junior Secondary Schools—Mulot, Emitiot, Koitabsilibwet (Bomet County), and Marumbasi and Chemegong (Kericho County)—planted 500 trees as a commemorative activity.
This initiative was made possible through partnership with Waterlines Organization, planting trees in honour of Ivan's father, Zeterino Cornejo Paz—a gesture that blends remembrance, learning, and environmental stewardship.

In Koitamugul, Narok West, what was once dry and unproductive land now thrives with life.
With support from 𝘛𝘦𝘯𝘸𝘦𝘬 𝘏𝘰𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐭 and his community have turned their fields into food forests, a powerful example of faith, innovation, and resilience in action.

Today, more than 20 varieties of fruit trees and a vibrant kitchen garden feed families, improve nutrition, and restore hope.
Through our Food Security and Nutrition Initiative, communities like Koitamugul are learning that food security begins with local action, sustainable farming practices, and the sharing of knowledge.

Today, we celebrate women who turned hope into action.
From uncertainty to confidence, from struggle to skill—these graduates of the 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙃𝙤𝙥𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 stand ready to build better lives for themselves and their families.
Through training supported by Friends of Tenwek, the graduates gain not just tailoring skills, but strength, dignity, and independence.
One graduate shared,

The resilient Kipkelion group from the Kericho-Kisumu border, their inspiring journey reveals how our partnership is enabling farmers and entrepreneurs to thrive, achieve self-sufficiency, and build sustainable livelihoods.

By focusing on agricultural training, holistic ministry, and hands-on capacity building, we see the true impact of farming with a purpose—not just for food, but for economic empowerment. At Tenwek Hospital Community Health and Development, we believe the Church has a unique calling—to care for the 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲, 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥, 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐝.
Through our 𝑪𝒉𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒉 𝑴𝒐𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎, we are walking alongside local congregations, helping them 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉, 𝒅𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒚.

Pastors and church leaders are being equipped to serve beyond the pulpit—teaching families about hygiene, supporting the sick, promoting peace, and helping communities grow both 𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚.

One pastor shared,

At 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐰𝐞𝐤 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, we believe that lasting nutrition begins right at home. Through our 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦, families are learning how to turn small spaces into thriving kitchen gardens that feed their households and strengthen community health.

In schools, children proudly tend their gardens—planting, watering, and harvesting with excitement. One learner shared,

“We eat what we grow. Our sukuma wiki and carrots taste better because they come from our garden.”

In villages, women groups are doing the same. Two mothers told us,

“We no longer buy vegetables every day. Our gardens save us money and keep our families healthy.”

Our role is simple—to walk with communities as they 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧, 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰. With your support, we continue empowering households to achieve food security, one garden at a time.

Together, we are proving that when homes grow their own food, communities grow stronger.
