My name is Andy Baldwin and I am a doctor in the US Navy. I have had the opportunity to travel the world for my job for Navy Medicine and have been moved by the kindness of humanity, the pain of poverty, and the hope of children worldwide, but never before have I had an experience like these last...

Our quick-acting nurses were able to prevent a disaster today by identifying what would have been a nightmare delivery (twins with one laying side-ways) and getting the client quickly referred to the hospital. Go Chebaiywa Team!!

Name: Shadrack Kitur
Nickname:Kitur
Age: 36
Position: Clinical Officer and member of Administrative Team
Family: Married with three sons

Reason for Becomming a Clinical Officer: I realized that in the area that I come from, many people were suffering. I saw that in rural areas medical facilities are few and far apart. So many people could have been saved if there was medical help available. I saw people being lost to simple things like malaria. I decided that I wanted to be able to give back to the communities who are in need.

Thing Most Enjoyed About the Job: I get satisfaction when I have attended to someone and he/she comes back and I see that they have improved and are doing well.

Thing Least-Liked: The only thing I dislike about the job is that you are on duty 24 hours a day. Because you can never turn away someone who is in need.

Other Thoughts: I love having visitors from abroad. So if you are reading this and you have interest, I would love to have you one day come and visit. And if you don’t have the means to visit yourself, I would love for you to still share with us in the work we are doing.

thank you for the wonderful experience at Chebaiywa Health Center!

As my rotation in Kenya comes to a close, I know that the work here and throughout the world to help kids live healthy lives has only just begun. Inspired, humbled, moved and ready to Run for Something Better in Nairobi and in New York, I say farewell to the Chebaiywa Clinic, Edward and Michelle.
