In the last week we have witnessed the overturn of Roe v. Wade.

But dear Christian let us not sleep. Let us not assume that the court ruling will change people's hearts.

Through it all our call and responsibility as Christians remain the same. We must be gospel advocates of all that is right and good and true. Let us take our stand for life. Life is God's gift.

When providence frowns upon us, overturning our cherished plans, and blasting our outward comforts, then has the Christian urgent need to look to his heart, and keep it with all diligence from relying against God or fainting under His hand.

Great Forgiveness For Great Sin

I like the way Martin Luther talks upon this subject, though he is sometimes rather too bold. He says, " Jesus Christ is not a sham saviour for sham sinners, but He is a real Saviour Who offers a real atonement for real sin, for gross crimes, for shameless offenses, for transgressions of every sort and every size."

And a far greater One than Luther has said, " Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool" (Isaiah 1:18)

Mary’s pregnancy was many things.

But unplanned? No.

In Mary’s human heart, though, she must’ve felt human feelings. She was a young Jewish girl. In one day – in one singular visit from the angel – the life Mary thought she had was no more.

This pregnancy would deliver the long-awaited coming of the Savior. And we are privileged to know the beginning and the end of the story.

But Mary was not reading the story. She was living it.

Mary had a lot of explaining to do to the world around her. After all, the angel didn’t explain the pregnancy to everyone else. Just Mary and Joseph.

God knew their human hearts and met their need in advance through the words of angels. Two messengers, one to Mary and one to Joseph, bringing the same message: “Do not fear.”

Human fear was the natural response; even as God’s perfect plan was unfolding.

The coming of Jesus was divinely planned, but the pregnancy – on Mary’s part – was not planned.

Yes, there was much to fear in Mary’s natural flesh. And so, it is today. With all pregnancies.
When we look with spiritual eyes – eyes looking deep into Scripture, eyes looking heavenward - we know that life doesn’t just happen. Life is created by a deliberate and all-powerful God.

The coming of the Lord Jesus as a beautiful baby boy, was a miracle wrapped in cloth. This baby would grow up to be the Savior of the world.

He came that we might have life in abundance through salvation when we call upon His name, lifting up our voices in humble surrender to His reign and rule in our lives.

The matter of life for the unborn, is really a matter of the gospel at its core. Sin only brings destruction and death to our souls, while obedience brings life. Even in the most difficult of times, the Lord promises that He will be with us and we will bear good fruit.
