Drug use and abuse among youths is global phenomenon. The intake of Ma*****na and other drug among youths between the age 15years – 50years is astronomically high and alarming. Statistics revealed that youths who smoke Ma*****na started smoking at 15years, statistics further revealed that 50% of the drug addicted youths were influence by peers and their environment.
Drug use is one of the major causes of health problems, it gives stakeholders such as Counseling psychologists, Researchers, Sociologists, Religious leaders, Non- Governmental Organizations, Parents, Churches and Community leaders sleepless night. Drug use and abuse has become social malady and threat to society. If not adequately treated and abated, society will continue breeding miscreant and future of youths will be affected. In view of the above problems, Chief Executive Officer of Hand of Hope welfare for drug addicted youths Rev Erastus Sorobi and who is also a Pastor of Hope Family Church, Nairobi has taken step to eradicate drug abuse and intake among Kenya youths. Due to his passion for professionalism , he has engaged Nigeria versatile counseling psychologist, researcher and vocational education expert based in Nairobi to conduct therapy using psychoanalysis(Sigmund Freud), Social learning(Albert Bandura) and Behavioral Theory(B. F Skinner) to treat drug addicted youths referral to the clinic. He is a program director and therapist providing psychotherapy treatment to the clients. I hereby using this medium to make it an obligation to all and sundry to referral any drug addicted youths to our clinic for therapy, all cases will be treated confidential. Currently, we have admitted five drug addicted youths from church neighborhood and they are undergoing psychotherapy, we have secured house for them, provided clothing materials and foodstuffs for the clients.
We are done with the first stage of therapy, we will move to stage of empowering the drug addicted rehabilitated youths. Vocational preference scale has been administered to a group of drug addicted rehabilitated youths to measure their interest in learning practical skills. It was revealed that respondents who has passion for business training were 30%, those who shown interest in skills acquisition such as Kebross and painting were 50% and 20% of respondents reported that they want to participate in literacy education. Recommendations were made based on the findings of the survey to commence training to improve socioeconomic status of the clients(Drug rehabilitated youths).
