The Hospital and the PCEA Kikuyu Presbytery today held a heartfelt retirement service in honour of our Chaplain, Rev. Eustace Kabue, a servant whose ministry proved that healing can come through hope, prayer and compassion even without a stethoscope or medicine. His presence strengthened many who sought comfort within our walls. Our CEO, CPA Jamhuri Joel reflected on his gracious nature, sharing moments from the disciplinary committee where his strong instinct to forgive sometimes had to be balanced with the need for accountability when mistakes occurred. Rev John Mbae, the Deputy Secretary General of PCEA, highlighted Rev. Kabue's remarkable achievements, including his commitment to environmental conservation which influenced its inclusion in the PCEA Strategic Plan, advanced through the Nendeni Board and the Mission and Board for Social Responsibility. He was also part of the wider PCEA Church team that partnered with other churches in contributing to the making of the 2010 Constitution of Kenya. Rev. Kabue's legacy remains a powerful example of leadership, service and dedication.

PCEA Kikuyu Hospital Eye Unit yesterday marked a historic milestone as it celebrated fifty years of restoring sight and transforming lives. The Golden Jubilee brought together the former Moderator of the PCEA General Assembly David R Gathanju, the Deputy Secretary General of PCEA Rev John Mbae, the Hospital Board led by Chairperson Mr Gerishon Kanori, officials from the Ministry of Health, representatives from the County Government of Kiambu, former Eye Unit staff led by founding Director Dr Mark Wood, current Eye Unit teams, and service providers in eye care. In his remarks, Rev Mbae shared a message that resonated throughout the event, quoting Psalm 115:1“Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to Your name give glory.” The anniversary highlighted a legacy of dedication and reaffirmed the Eye Unit’s commitment to quality eye care for communities across Kenya.

Today is World AIDS Day, a moment that calls us to reflect, learn and stand with every person affected by HIV. This year’s theme, Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response, reminds us that progress depends on stronger awareness, reliable support systems and access to testing and treatment for all. Our community continue to benefit when we remain informed, reduce stigma and encourage regular screening. Let us use this day to promote understanding and ensure that no one faces HIV in silence.

We launched the Golden Jubilee Celebrations Week today as we mark fifty years of service at the Eye Unit. In his message our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Aruyaru shared a powerful reflection inspired by Ralph Waldo Emerson, noting that the founders of our Eye Unit built in the woods yet their commitment drew people from far and wide. The story of our Unit continues to demonstrate the impact of excellence, compassion and vision in healthcare. As we celebrate this milestone we honour those who began the work and those who have carried it forward to reach communities across Kenya, East africa and beyond.

World AIDS Day 2025 reminds us that every community has the power to make progress when we act with unity and compassion. This year’s theme, Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response, calls on us to strengthen awareness, testing, prevention and access to treatment for all. For families across Kenya, this day is a reminder that stigma must not stand in the way of support and care. Let us continue to prioritise education, encourage testing and stand with those affected. Together we can build healthier and more resilient communities.
