Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation

Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation Statistics show that one in ten women suffer from endometriosis. In March 2019, Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation, launched the yellow nails movement. b. c. d. e.

Based in Nairobi and Thika, Endo Sisters EA Foundation has been formed with the vision of promoting early diagnosis and keeping hope alive for endometriosis (endo) warriors and those with associated menstrual disorders. In this respect, the mission of Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation is to educate, share information, collaborate and encourage women living with Endometriosis and other menstrual disorders. The Yellow Nails Movement is a campaign aimed at sensitization and driving participation for endometriosis awareness creation. The movement aims to create a visual identifier for endometriosis through yellow nails and the traditionally known yellow ribbons given that yellow is the global endo colour. The call to action is ‘paint nails yellow’ and upload the said yellow nails photos on social media using . The target audience of this campaign are women and adolescents (teens included) of child bearing age who can either be accessed through salons, nail bars, schools or through social media. Men and Boys can also participate by tagging friends and posting on endometriosis awareness, with the hashtag . This campaign was initially supported by the launch slogan, ‘start the conversation’. As we continue with the conversation in its second year and as a reflection of the program work that we are engaged in, our thematic message is ‘Be informed, take action!’

Specifically, it is our hope and prayer that our campaign:

a. Will get women and particularly adolescent girls to seek out more information and early diagnosis. Will cause Endometriosis (and other menstrual disorders) to be recognized and included in the national reproductive agenda and Education Curriculum, in both Kenya and neighboring East African countries. Will help create a framework where accessibility to treatment in terms of subsidized costs and locations will be enhanced. Will help in the management of endometriosis particularly in terms of slowing endometriosis progression and infertility diagnosis. Will extend as a recognized endometriosis awareness identifier throughout Africa and globally. In conclusion, we at Endosisters East Africa Foundation envision a future, where yellow nails will psychologically be associated with endometriosis awareness globally. Nairobi County has officially introduced menstrual leave, allowing women experiencing dysmenorrhea (severe period pain) to take 2 fully paid days off each month. The policy recognizes menstrual pain as a legitimate health condition that can affect daily functioning, concentration, and mobility — especially for those with conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, polyps, etc. This groundbreaking policy aims to reduce stigma, support women’s well-being in the workplace, and set a new Kenyan standard for menstrual health rights. This policy is significant as it highlights the impact of menstrual disorders on girls and women. This is a call to all Kenyan organizations and institutions to recognize the deliberating impact menstrual disorders has on women and ensure it is adressed in HR Policies.

In 10 minutes you can now get endometriosis diagnosis with the new found home test kit, hopefully it will get FDA approval and be available in the market for access.
Researchers at Pennsylvania State University have created a user-friendly, minimally invasive test that patients can administer at home which will aid in reducing diagnostic time and also cost associated with laparoscopy surgery, read here for more https://totalnews.com/doctors-create-a-home-test-for-a-condition-impacting-millions-of-americans-that-often-goes-undiagnosed-for-nearly-a-decade/

Menstruation is universal. But access, protection, regulation and dignity aren’t.

A world map shared by shows the world through the lens of menstrual equity

✘ Most countries still tax periods as luxuries.
✘ Most workplaces still ignore menstrual needs.
✘ And almost no government regulates what actually goes inside your body.

For something so universal, the global picture is shockingly unequal and we all need to champion for a world where there's no period poverty, period education for all, this will help reduce stigma around something so universal

Spain has officially introduced nationwide menstrual leave, allowing women experiencing severe period pain to take 3 to 5 fully paid days off each month. The policy recognizes menstrual pain as a legitimate health condition that can affect daily functioning, concentration, and mobility — especially for those with disorders like endometriosis or dysmenorrhea. This groundbreaking law aims to reduce stigma, support women’s well-being in the workplace, and set a new global standard for menstrual health rights. Violence against women is not only physical but emotional suffering and neglect. This policy is significant as it highlights the impact of menstrual disorders on girls and women. This is a call to the menstrual health community to take menstrual disorders seriously and include it as a key component in the mhm agenda.

Endometriosis is so much more than "just a bad period." It's a full body disease that brings debilitating pain, fatigue, digestive issues, nervous symptoms, thoracic among others that people don't see. This why it is common to hear people, I didn't know I had endometriosis until I was was diagnosed after a period of like 10 years.
Awareness on endometriosis matters

You’re Not Alone in This Journey

As we observe the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, it’s important to remember that violence isn’t always physical. Sometimes, it shows up in the form of neglect, dismissal, and the emotional harm women experience when their pain is minimized or ignored.
For many endo warriors, this is the reality.

Many women have shared the deep pain and disappointment that followed their excision surgeries. The lingering symptoms, the unexpected new challenges, the financial and emotional strain, and the weight of feeling unheard or unsupported by the systems meant to care for them.
This silence, this lack of proper aftercare, this dismissal of women’s suffering, it is a form of violence too.

To hold space for all of this, we’re coming together for a final community webinar on Tuesday, 9th December at 6pm.

A safe, compassionate space to talk openly about:
• Post-excision aftercare
• Reality vs. expectation
• Gaps in medical support
• Mental health during recovery
• Alternative remedies that help

This conversation is part of a larger, global call to action during these 16 days:
To demand better care.
To validate women’s pain.
To stand against the emotional and institutional violence that comes from being dismissed.

If you’re going through this phase, or supporting someone who is, you are welcome. Your voice matters. Your story matters.

Let’s learn, breathe, and heal together, one shared experience at a time. 💛
