Nutrition assessment involved:
•Anthropometric measurements (weight - previous 87kgs : current average 75ks over a period of 6 months)
•Biochemical Assessment – Hepatitis B Laboratory results
•Clinical assessment : Patient looks well
•Dietary Assessment – revisited the meal plan with no changes, patient advised on foods that spike blood sugar since treviamet was dropped from his list of medication. Patient is in remission, blood sugar levels at an average of 4.5mmols
•Client X is now strictly on diet as far as blood sugar control is concerned.
Nutrition Education and Counseling was offered- this is continuing
Based on the outcome of the nutrition assessment.

Patient to note foods not on the meal plan.
Observe diet since medicine for controlling blood sugar was dropped.

Having a healthy dinner is linked to good sleep, good choices at breakfast and lunch, lower inflammation, greater resilience to stress, better digestion, stable blood sugar and lower anxiety.

What about the importance of timing 🤔

The time you eat dinner is just as important as what you eat. Many a time people eat dinner very late and then struggle with poor quality sleep, disturbed digestion and volatile dreams. 🤐🤐

Remember that your digestion gets weaker and weaker the more you move past sunset. The closer your dinner is to sunset the lighter it is on your body. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Today let's look at this yummy baked chicken recipe😎😎
With a delicious marinade 😋😋

Lemon garlic chicken recipe 😍😍

INGREDIENTS 😋😋

• ½ cup chicken stock

• 2 tablespoons olive oil

• 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice

• 1 tablespoon lemon zest

• 2 cloves garlic, minced

• 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

• 1 teaspoon dried oregano

• 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

• Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

• 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs

• 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

DIRECTIONS:

• In a medium bowl, combine chicken stock, olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic, Dijon, oregano, thyme, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and 1 1/2 teaspoons pepper.

• In a gallon size Ziploc bag or large bowl, combine chicken and chicken stock mixture; marinate for at least 2 hours to overnight, turning the bag occasionally. Drain the chicken from the marinade.

• Heat olive oil in a cast iron grill pan over medium-high heat.* Working in batches, add chicken to the grill pan in a single layer and cook until golden brown and cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 165 degrees F, about 4-5 minutes per side.

• Serve immediately.

**Did you know, that insomnia is categorized as a non communicable disease**

But, what is insomnia 🤔🤔

Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which you have trouble falling and/or staying asleep.

The condition can be short-term (acute) or can last a long time (chronic). It may also come and go.

Acute insomnia lasts from 1 night to a few weeks. Insomnia is chronic when it happens at least 3 nights a week for 3 months or more.

A diet high in refined carbohydrates may raise the likelihood of developing insomnia, according to a 2019 study. Often referred to as “empty” calories, refined carbs include sugars and processed grains that are stripped of nutrients. 🤔🤔

Well, I definitely did not think Avocado would make the protein list..
And wait did you all take a long look at the dietary allowance calculations😅😅

Covid-19 and Nutrition

Tips on basic nutrition 😎

-We've been mentioning some protein foods like chicken 😋but we have never really gone deeper into proteins.
Let me begin with the definition😅
-What is a protein?
A protein is a macronutrient that is essential for building muscle mass 🏋🏋
It is commonly found in animal products, though it is also present in other sources, such as nuts and legumes. 😎😎
Did you know 😅😅
-Proteins help to build a stronger immunity apart from contributing to muscle growth and development.”
Okay let's get deeper 🤓

The immune system works through the usage of certain protein molecules called antibodies.🤗
These antibodies come into action as a response to harmful foreign substances like bacteria and viruses.🙄🙄
-Cytokines, a group of proteins that are specifically secreted by the immune system, are used by the body to signal for regulation of immunity.😅
-Your gut is packed with 60-70 per cent of immune cells and these cells utilise branched-chain amino acids for fuelling themselves.

- Dietary protein is necessary to help boost or build your immunity

Well so we've defined Vitamin D and we have looked at the sources 🍱🍱
Now today we must look at the types

Yap I just said types 🏌🏌
There are two major types of vitamin D;🤗🤗

Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) – which is synthesized by plants and is not produced by the human body😅

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) – which is made in large quantities in the skin when sunlight strikes bare skin. It can also be ingested from animal sources🐷

So what happens when we ingest or busk out in the sun 😏😏
Once Vitamin D is absorbed through unprotected skin or ingested then absorbed by the intestines, vitamin D is bound to the binding protein and carried to the liver via the bloodstream🌏🌏
But wait have you all heard the rumour that Vitamin D, calcium and phosphorus are all co-workers 🎌well, it is not a rumour
Did you know;
🍶🌞
Vitamin D functions by stimulating intestinal calcium and phosphorus absorption🍨
Calcium , phosphorus and vitamin D work together to protect your bones. Calcium and phosphorus help build and maintain bones, while vitamin D helps your body effectively absorb them.
So even if you’re taking in enough calcium and phosphorus, it could be going to waste if you’re deficient in vitamin D.
