We need ACCOUNTABILITY.

This is South Africa’s grief.
It also belongs to every country still debating proof.

I’ll never forget how much he cried. Oh my God 😭!! What’s worse is that a nurse would come into my room, peep and be like “wah Aki Amelia” 😭😭. Oh night had one lulled me into false confidence.
Night two humbled me. Fully.

I thought I broke him.
I thought I broke me.

Turns out it’s called Second Night Syndrome.
Normal. Brutal. Underrated chaos.

No one prepares you for it.
But if you’re in it—tired, overwhelmed, Googling in the dark—
you’re not alone.

As we go out tomorrow, PROTECT YOURSELF.
As regards protecting yourself against teargas, wear as much protective clothing as possible to avoid contact with your skin. If you have a face shield, put it on! If not, wear a face mask and goggles. If not, ata sunglasses although not as effective but it will protect you.

Wear clothing that you know you can remove easily and you do not mind discarding.

ANY OIL BASED substance like make up and sunscreen can absorb teargas as well so you may want to avoid those substances.

And if you do, well, here are some tips that might help you out!

Just a gentle reminder… you are doing great. These are a few things I read/heard and have been on my mind the past couple of weeks. I am learning to be me. I am learning to see life through MY lens. That I am on my own journey no matter how convoluted it seems. I am going after things I want and no matter the outcome, I think I will be glad that I did what I needed to do… I will be okay. And you know what? So will you ❤️.

Have you ever been in a relationship (romantic/family/friendship/work/situationship etc) and started feeling like you were loosing your mind? Like your reality was non existent? That what you felt was not real and maybe, just maybe, you were not deserving of feeling hurt by what someone said or even did? That this person loves you too much, they possibly can’t hurt you? That you could love this person enough to make them change? That your mind was making a big deal over the bad parts? You start believing that you’re not good at anything; making a simple decision is impossible…You are always apologizing… You are so unhappy and you can’t figure out why… You start making excuses for them because you are not even sure of what is real anymore…

Gaslighting is a type of emotional abuse.

It’s hard to leave… but yes, it’s possible. I need you to believe that you CAN get out of this toxic situation.

Hello there!

I’m hoping you are doing great so far. Well, here to remind you that emotional manipulation is NOT exclusive to romantic relationships. Your family, friends, colleagues and even sexual partners can manipulate you. More often than not, we never really recognize it and what’s worse, when that person who actually cares about you, tells you that you are being taken advantage of, there is little to no convincing possible.

I found this article by Nafeesah Allen, Ph.D. on how to spot emotional manipulation and I thought to share it on here.

Hey you.

I found this in my drafts and I definitely had to share. I remember reading up on this when I started this journey because I kept being asked “why are to depressed?” “ are you really depressed?” which quite frankly annoyed me.

Stop gaslighting people who are depressed by making them question of what they are feeling is real when already, they are questioning a lot about life. Be empathetic. If you don’t understand what someone is going through, it’s okay. Just listen. That’s it.
