✨🎄 Spreading Christmas Cheer at CGTRH 🎄✨

The Kenya Paediatric Association (KPA), Coast Region, led by Chairperson Dr. Saumu, together with Dr. Awimbo, Slim, and colleagues from the private sector and Mombasa County, joined hands to celebrate Christmas with our little ones and their families at Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital.

KPA donated diapers, milk, T-shirts, a Christmas tree, and four 2kg cakes; all shared across the paediatric wards.

The celebration was graced by our Deputy CEO Dr. Yakoub, paediatric consultants including Dr. Naiyat, Dr. Prianka, and many others.

This gesture marked the Christmas festivities at CGTRH, bringing joy, dignity, and smiles to our young patients and their families. ❤️

A New Chapter of Care at CGTRH:

Today we celebrate the launch of our Cardio-Oncology Program; a landmark service designed to support patients who are navigating both cancer and heart health challenges.

This milestone was made possible through the vision and dedication of Dr. Kieran Mwazo (Cardiology) and Dr. Abdulrahman (Oncology), together with an incredible team working tirelessly behind the scenes.

The program brings together cardiologists, oncologists, nurses, pharmacists, and diagnostic experts to deliver care that is safe, timely, and coordinated. For our community, this means:
- 💡 Early detection and prevention of heart complications during cancer treatment
- 🤝 Integrated care that reduces the burden of moving between multiple clinics
- ⏱️ Faster, more efficient treatment pathways for patients and families
- Access to specialized expertise right here at home, without the need to travel abroad

By opening this service, we reaffirm our commitment to deliver quality, patient‑centered care. Most importantly, we give our patients something priceless hope.

at Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital!

We are proud to announce the successful performance of an advanced breast cancer management procedure;- the first of its kind in a public hospital in the coastal region.

A young mother of one underwent a Left Skin Sparing & Skin Reducing Mastectomy (SSM/SRM) with immediate reconstruction using a Latissimus Dorsi (LD) muscle flap, combined with a right breast reduction for symmetry.

This groundbreaking surgery was carried out by our highly skilled team led by:
Dr. Maryam Badawy – Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon
Dr. Ruth Njoroge – Consultant Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Khadija Maawy – Consultant Anaesthesiologist

Beyond removing the cancer, the procedure restored the patient’s self-image and psychological well-being, a vital step in her healing journey.

was honored to host the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) at our Radiotherapy Treatment Centre as part of their CSR initiative.

IEK generously donated weighing scales and blood pressure machines, vital tools that strengthen patient monitoring and elevate the quality of care at our Cancer Center. These devices will empower our clinicians to track treatment progress with precision and support early detection of complications, directly benefiting patients on their cancer journey.

✨ From Incubator to Inspiration ✨
Our NICU was filled with joy as we welcomed back a former preemie, now thriving and shining as a true symbol of resilience. 💜

Their journey reminds us all; staff, parents, and families with preterm babies, that hope is powerful and progress is possible. We were also touched to see other patients with their little fighters, and even one of our own staff members proudly sharing her former preemie’s story.

Together, these moments celebrate strength, courage, and the incredible fight of premature babies everywhere.
