What would be the benefits of hoisting an individual using a hoist and sling where their feet maintained contact with the floor?

Consider what benefits this would have with someone with behaviours that you find challenging. The individual who is distressed when suspended in the air searching for proprioceptive feedback, the individual with Sensory processing difficulties or dementia.

Putting the feet on the footplate will provide the individual with some feedback as well as make them feel grounded. This would be for the individual who had head control and could maintain an upright seated position as their is no support around the head or shoulders

Using this technique has been know to reduce the level of distress to the individual

World Bipolar Day

Bipolar
Bipolar disorder is a mental illness characterized by periods of elevated mood and depression. The elevated mood is significant and is known as mania or hypomania depending on severity. During mania and individual feels or acts abnormally happy, energetic or irritable. The need to sleep is usually reduced.
During periods of depression there may be crying, poor eye contact with others, and negative outlook on life. Risk of su***de among those with bipolar is high.
The cause is not clearly understood, but both genetic and environmental factors play a role.
Treatment commonly include psychotherapy, medication such as mood stabilizers and electroconvulsive therapy. With the help of multidisciplinary team like psychiatrist, psychotherapists, Occupational therapist and nurses, individuals with bipolar are in a better position to control their episodes.
