Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located at the front of your neck under your skin.

Your thyroid’s main job is to control the speed of your metabolism (metabolic rate), which is the process of how your body transforms the food you consume into energy. All of the cells in your body need energy to function.

SUDDEN HEARING LOSS

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL), commonly known as sudden deafness occurs as an unexplained, rapid loss of hearing—usually in one ear—either at once or over several days. It should be considered a medical emergency. Anyone who experiences SSHL should visit us HOPE ENT immediately. Sometimes, people with SSHL put off seeing an ENT because they think their hearing loss is due to allergies, a sinus infection, earwax plugging the ear canal, or other common conditions. However, delaying SHHL diagnosis and treatment may decrease the effectiveness of treatment.
