may have rested, but the diseases that took his life have not. They are still spreading silently across Kenya. It’s time we matched remembrance with action - prevention, awareness, and stronger health systems. The Ministry of Health NCD Alliance Kenya Health Promotion Kenya - MOH Amos Kamau

Diabetes, hypertension, Kidney disease won and this time they took the iconic man to ever grace the Kenyan political landscape . Should this be an opportunity to face this Non communicable Diseases giant once and for all?

NCDs (Non communicable Diseases) account to over 50% of all hospital admissions in Kenya and far much worse those who walk in the hospital due to the diseases around 55% do not come out alive. (55% of all hospital deaths in Kenya are as a result of NCDs). They are the number 1 killer in the world

This should fuel urgency in addressing the rising NCDs in Kenya The Ministry of Health NCD Alliance Kenya Amos Kamau

I'm currently attending Diabetic and hypertensive patients na honestly sio kuzuri

What worries me is the lack of awareness about these conditions

Mzee anakuja hosi juu ya persist headaches only to be checked and blood pressure iko over 180
Others Blood sugar iko 20

I recommend you get checked especially if you have a relative or your parents live with Diabetes or Hypertension (High blood pressure)

A tip : Check your diet - Eat farm fresh and traditional foods and avoid as much as possible Packaged foods which when you read the food label contains ingredients you have never heard of
Do something about your weight
Then be physically active
Avoid alcohol, avoid smoking 🚭
Do regular health check ups
You will be safe!

⚠️ You may feel healthy… until high blood pressure strikes.
The Silent Killer in Kenya: How Everyday Choices Are Raising Your Blood Pressure 🫀⚠️

High blood pressure (BP) is no longer a “foreign problem.” In Kenya today, more people are silently living with it without knowing—until it strikes through a stroke, heart attack, or kidney failure. Doctors call it the “silent killer” because it shows no warning signs.

Our lifestyle is the biggest weapon against (or for) high blood pressure.

Here’s what you can do starting today:
✅ Limit alcohol – heavy drinking raises BP and damages your heart.
✅ Cut back on salt – too much salt makes your blood vessels stiff and pushes pressure up.
✅ Eat smart – more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, and less processed foods.
✅ Stay active – 30 minutes of walking or exercise most days can save your life.
✅ Manage stress – prayer, meditation, deep breathing, or just slowing down helps.
✅ Check your weight – even small weight loss lowers BP risk.
✅ Monitor your BP – know your numbers before it’s too late.

In Kenya, hospital bills are high—but prevention costs almost nothing. A small change in your daily habits can protect your heart, your brain, and your family.

Your health is your wealth. Don’t wait for a crisis to take control.
