We are going to be honest with you. Waxing is one of the most efficient hair removal techniques and the results are amazing. However, there are a few things that we all need to know:
1. Your first experience is going to be painful due to many reasons, such as, anticipation, enlarged bulb at the base of the hair shaft, anticipation, low pain tolerance, etc.
2. You may experience itchiness a day or so after waxing but a cold compress will help. Itchiness may also occur 2-3 weeks post waxing as the new hair is breaking through the mouth of the follicle. This is common to people with coarse hair who have been shaving over a long period of time and it usually occurs only after the first few waxing sessions.
Exfoliate every other day to prevent the dead skin cells from clogging the mouth of the follicle.
3. Some may experience in-grown hairs after waxing. This is because dead skin cells can form over the mouth of the follicle, hindering the hair from coming out of the follicle. This causes the hair to grow under the skin.
Gently exfoliate every other day and moisturize using diluted tea tree oil to prevent/ reduce in-grown hair.
4. Give yourself 4-6 weeks after waxing, depending on your hair growth cycle, before you book another appointment. Ideally, your hair should be approximately the length of rice grain for beneficial results.
5. Unusual heavy growth once in a while is quite normal, although it is uncommon. This is usually caused be hormonal changes, medications, temperature, irregular waxing intervals, etc. It is nothing to worry about.
For one to see the results of waxing, such as, sparse hair growth, thinning of hair, diminished skin darkening & longer hair-free period, give yourself 3 waxing sessions.
