Flu Vaccination Now Available

Seasonal influenza remains a significant cause of illness worldwide, with annual infection rates ranging from 5–15% of the population. Vaccination is the most effective way to reduce transmission, prevent severe disease, and protect high-risk individuals.

Clinical benefits of the flu vaccine:
• Reduces the risk of influenza-related complications
• Lowers the likelihood of transmitting the virus to vulnerable groups
• Supports community-level protection during peak circulation periods

Today is a reminder that inclusion is the real test of any health system. 🌍 Too many people still face quiet but persistent barriers to the care and access they should not have to negotiate.

Building a disability-inclusive society begins with listening 👂 and designing with, not for, people with disabilities—and investing in systems that reach everyone, every time. 🦾

A fairer, healthier world becomes possible when accessibility stops being an afterthought and starts being the standard. ✅

At Metropolitan Hospital, we remain committed to strengthening our spaces, processes, and services so every patient, every client can navigate their care without barriers. 🏥💙

The HIV response is shifting and the priority remains constant: ensuring reliable, equitable access to prevention, testing and treatment.

This World AIDS Day, we recognise the communities most affected, people living with HIV, adolescents, young adults and key populations who continue to face barriers to care. Service disruptions, stigma and funding gaps deepen these inequities.

At the same time, we recognise that the response must continue to adapt. Advances such as long-acting HIV prevention, injections that offer protection for months, are expanding options for people who cannot rely on daily medication. When integrated with simplified treatment, strong primary health care and community-based support, these tools help maintain continuity of care even when circumstances change.

Ending AIDS requires dependable systems, rights-centred services and environments where people can seek care without judgement.

At Metropolitan Hospital, we remain committed to providing accessible HIV prevention, testing and treatment services and ensuring that no one is left behind. For support, call us on 0709 148 000 or visit us in Buruburu along Rabai Road.

The future of modern medicine depends on the actions we take today. 🌍💊

As we conclude our series on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the message remains clear: antibiotics are a precious resource that is running out. Without effective medicines, the medical advancements we rely on—from cancer treatments to safe childbirth—are under threat.

To secure a safer future, we must break the chain of resistance by:

🚫 Stopping Self-Medication: Only take antibiotics when prescribed by a certified healthcare professional.

✅ Completing the Course: Finish the full dose of medication, even if you feel better, to prevent surviving bacteria from becoming resistant.

🧼 Prioritizing Prevention: Stick to strict hygiene practices, such as handwashing and vaccination, to stop infections before they start.

At Metropolitan Hospital, we are dedicated to being "Your Partners in Health" by championing responsible antibiotic use and ensuring patient safety remains our top priority. 🏥💙

Let’s keep the fight going beyond this week.

Today, we began the Spine Surgical Camp, the treatment phase following the spine screening camp conducted a few weeks ago.

Metropolitan Hospital, through Tmgfoundationke, has partnered with Instituto Clavel and the Nairobi Spine & Orthopaedic Centre to perform corrective spinal and orthopaedic surgeries for the patients identified during the camp.

This collaboration ensures patients receive high-level care from teams with extensive experience in complex deformity management. Our shared objective remains the significant improvement of mobility and long-term quality of life for every beneficiary.

What a day and what a fitting close to Prematurity Awareness Month. ✨💜

We brought together the people who understand prematurity beyond statistics: parents, caregivers, and the children who once began life in our neonatal unit. 👶 Their reflections were a clear reminder that neonatal care must combine clinical excellence with strong family and community support.

In line with the 2025 global theme, ‘A strong start for a hopeful future,’ we continue to work with Tmgfoundationke to strengthen that continuum, from advanced neonatal care to community-level support systems. 🌱

To the families who joined us today, asanteni sana for sharing your journeys. These experiences remain the truest measure of our impact. 🙏

Safeguarding the future of healthcare starts with the decisions we make today.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is often called the "silent pandemic." It threatens to undo decades of medical progress, potentially sending us back to a time when common infections and minor injuries could be fatal. However, as highlighted in our guide, prevention is our strongest weapon.

To protect the efficacy of life-saving drugs, we must collectively adopt responsible habits:

* Say NO to Self-Medication: Never use antibiotics without a professional prescription. What worked for a friend may not work for you and could cause harm.
* Respect the Regimen: Always complete your full dose as prescribed, even if you start feeling better. Stopping early allows resistant bacteria to survive and multiply.
* Prioritize Prevention: Simple acts like regular hand washing, safe food preparation, and staying up-to-date with vaccinations reduce the need for antibiotics in the first place.

At Metropolitan Hospital, we are dedicated to rigorous antimicrobial stewardship and educating our community. By using antibiotics wisely, we ensure they remain effective for the patients of tomorrow.
