Yesterday, and CIFOR CRAF convened the Deputy Governor of Turkana County, County Executives, Directors and County officials, local administrators, civil society, implementing partners and community representatives in Lodwar for the Turkana County Engagement Forum.

Together, we reflected on priority issues identified during the project’s inception workshop, reviewed findings from policy analysis and stakeholder mapping, and co-developed pathways for strengthening climate adaptation, food systems, nutrition, and mental health in Turkana’s drylands.

We appreciate the collaboration, commitment, support and insights shared by the County Government of Turkana and all stakeholders as we work together to make visible the lived realities of climate change and to catalyze evidence-informed action across the county.

We were honoured to host H.E. Governor Gideon Mung'aro at our exhibition booth, where we highlighted evidence and insights shaping policy and practice across Kenya and the region.

CPSE also convened an engaging panel discussion on “Translating evidence into strengthening health systems for quality SRH services” bringing together healthcare providers, county health officials, and researchers to reflect on actionable pathways for improving sexual and reproductive health outcomes.

Gender equality grows when we combine good evidence, teamwork, and purposeful action. By understanding the root issues and turning research into strategy, we can challenge the barriers that hold us back and help build a more equal future for everyone,” Dr. LucyWakiaga emphasized this during the official launch of Kenya’s National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) reports, including the National Gender Research Agenda (NGRA).

Yesterday, APHRC participated in the High-Level Ministerial Meeting on Urban Education in Entebbe.

Moses Ngware, Senior Scientist and Head of the Human Development Theme at the Center offered a sobering reminder of the realities facing urban learners today:
“Africa has made remarkable progress in expanding access to education, yet millions of children in our rapidly growing cities are still being left behind. In Nairobi’s informal settlements, 63% of children attend low-fee private schools with limited oversight. Therefore, there is an urgent need for stronger public support, improved quality, and coordinated policies. This is why the Inter Country Quality Node (ICQN) on Urban Education is timely. This offers a strategic platform to ensure that as our cities grow, equity and learning outcomes grow with them, not apart.”

His call reinforces the purpose of collaborative dialogue and cross-country learning to:
✅ Strengthen inter-country cooperation on urban education;
✅ Support policy alignment and data-driven decision-making;
✅ Mobilize resources to reduce inequities in informal settlements
✅ Ensure that rapid urban growth does not widen the learning gap

The process of creating a collaborative platform on Urban Education represents a vital step toward crafting shared solutions, ensuring that rapid urbanization does not compromise the quality of education.
