As we celebrate the WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY 2018,at IOSHEM Africa limited is determined to make a change to the status of their workplace.

Stress management training is a key training that should be conducted during employee induction to the job and also emphasized during training on HIV/Aids and behavior based safety in the workplace.

According to the World Health Organization, 300 million people are suffering from depression globally, making it a leading cause of disability and a major contributor to the overall burden of disease.In Kenya, out of every 100,000 people , 6.5 commit su***de with more than 10,000 unsuccessful attempted su***des per year.

Depression can lead to su***de, but even before it reaches that level, it can adversely affect people’s personal and professional lives.

With Su***de being the leading cause of death to youths between 15- 29 years old, businesses are facing reduced labour , increased staff turnover and high costs on welfare payments.

In the workplace, the elimination stigma that comes with poor mental health of an employee is the first step to reducing Su***de rates.

Article 77(7) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 2007 provides that;
"Where any person is to work at a place from where he is liable to fall a distance of more than three metres, then, unless the place is one which affords secure foothold and, where necessary, secure handhold, means shall be provided, so far as is reasonably practicable, by fencing or otherwise for ensuring his safety."

Working at height remains one of the biggest causes of fatalities and major injuries. Common cases include falls from ladders and through fragile surfaces. ‘Work at height’ means work in any place where, if there were no precautions in place, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury (for example a fall through a fragile roof).
