Not all obesity is the same.
On this World Obesity Day, let’s learn something about obesity…
The way fat is distributed in the body can influence the risk of conditions such as high cholesterol, heart disease, and diabetes.
Here are three common types of obesity:
1️⃣ Central (Abdominal) Obesity
Fat accumulates mainly around the stomach and abdomen.
This pattern is strongly linked to higher cholesterol levels, heart disease, and metabolic disorders.
2️⃣ Peripheral Obesity
Fat is stored mostly around the hips, thighs, and buttocks.
While generally lower risk than abdominal obesity, it can still affect mobility and overall health.
3️⃣ Generalized Obesity
Fat is distributed throughout the entire body.
This is commonly assessed using Body Mass Index (BMI) and may increase the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
Understanding these patterns helps healthcare professionals evaluate cardiovascular risk factors, including cholesterol levels.
Routine laboratory tests such as a cholesterol test can help detect potential risks early and support better health decisions.
