STRENGTHENING AFRICA'S LABORATORY SYSTEMS — ONE HPLC AT A TIME!

MEDS, in partnership with PTB Germany, and with support from AMRH, ESTEC, and Archiepollo Solutions, proudly concluded a transformative regional training on HPLC Operation, Care, Troubleshooting & Preventive Maintenance.

The programme brought together women laboratory scientists from 17 African countries:
Namibia, Mali, Uganda, DRC, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Tunisia, Benin, Nigeria, Ghana, Seychelles and Kenya.

Over one month of blended virtual learning and hands-on sessions at the MEDS WHO-Prequalified QC Laboratory, the participants strengthened their capacity to maintain HPLC systems, reduce downtime, and support regulatory surveillance in their home countries.

A special salute to our exceptional trainers whose expertise shaped this success:
✨ Mildred Wanyama (MEDS)
✨ Claire Ogeto (ESTEC)
✨ Paul Mwangi (ESTEC)
✨ Apollo Khama (Archiepollo Solutions)

Our sincere appreciation also goes to our institutional champions:
Dr. Wycliffe Nandama (CEO, MEDS) and Dr. Stephen Kigera (Head of Quality Services, MEDS) for their unwavering support.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to:
🌟 Anna Reinhardt (PTB Germany) – for technical excellence, continuous coordination and strategic guidance
🌟 Jean Fidèle Bationo (AUDA-NEPAD) – for championing regulatory harmonization across the continent
🌟 Tendai Tofo (AUDA-NEPAD) – for strengthening alignment with the AMRH programme

Beyond the technical achievements, this training ignited a powerful movement:
👉 A call to establish Africa’s HPLC Communities of Practice (CoPs).
These CoPs will ensure that peer learning, troubleshooting, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing continue long after the training.
Together, we are building a stronger, safer, more interconnected African laboratory ecosystem.
The HPLC Communities of Practice are our next big step forward.
