The Karen Hospital

The Karen Hospital The Karen Hospital is a multi-specialty healthcare provider offering world class medical treatment at affordable costs.

On March 31, 2006, The Karen Hospital opened its doors to the Kenyan Public. This was the culmination of a noble idea that was conceived by two Black African Doctors, Betty Muthoni Gikonyo and Dan Kibuka Gikonyo both USA trained Cardiologists who carried the welfare of the Kenyan people in their hearts. This was the first tertiary hospital built by indigenous Kenyans since in the pre- and post independence era. The Karen Hospital is located in Karen, a name which many will recognize as the setting for the movie, “Out of Africa,'' which told the story of author Isak Dinesen, who used the pen name Karen Blixen, and who lived and worked in Kenya and wrote about Kenya and her love for it.

We recently hosted some of our Heart to Heart Foundation (H2H) beneficiaries, and it was wonderful to see how much they’ve grown healthy, confident, and full of life; a beautiful reminder of what compassion, care, and partnership can achieve.

From left: Everlyne Nyawira, Sinto, Favour Joy, Favour Wangari, and David Macharia.

Their life-saving surgeries were made possible through the Heart-to-Heart Foundation, our charity arm, and this, in turn, is possible because of the continuous generosity of our supporters, sponsors, and partners who continuously empower the foundation to help more children receive critical cardiac care.

Thank you for always standing with us and with these children. Your support keeps hope alive. Together, we remain the heartbeat of this mission.

Continuing our week of celebrating excellence in our team…

We’re proud to share that our very own Dr. Lance Mayabi is presenting today at the Day-1 Bariatric Session of the international surgical conference at Meril Academy, Vapi, Gujarat, India.

He’ll be speaking on “Sleeve Gastrectomy in Low-Resource Settings: Opportunities and Challenges,” an important topic that reflects both his expertise and his commitment to improving patient care across diverse settings.

We invite all of us to join in, learn, and support Dr. Mayabi as he represents us on a global stage.

Today, we celebrated one of our own, Lucy Mwangi, a senior nurse who has served faithfully since 2015 in our medical–surgical wards, with exceptional dedication to Sagana, elderly, and paediatric patients. 💚

Her colleagues described her as a true team player, compassionate caregiver, and committed professional whose impact will be remembered for years.

Lucy expressed her gratitude to the entire TKH family for the support, the teamwork, and the privilege of serving, and above all, she thanked God for the journey.

We wish her the very best in her next chapter. Thank you, Lucy, for your service, your heart, and your legacy. 🌿💛
