Did you know that there is nothing like responsible or irresponsible drinking? According to our team leader Dr.(H) Francis, alcohol metabolism is the same irrespective of brand, type or volume. Dr Francis insists that the liver keep offs all other fluid or food materials and rushes to digest alcohol once brought in to the body. On average, the liver takes abt 1hr to metabolize one ounce of alcohol. Alcohol damages the liver (cirrhosis) in 3 stages. The first signs include pain or tenderness in abdomen, yellowing of skin, reddening of lips, general fatigue and loss of appetite. At the 2nd stage a fake belly may protrude and fattening of cheeks. Before the terminal stage takes over, Dr. Francis advises that apart from withdrawing from alcoholism, which may help improve alcohol-related cirrhosis, there is no medical or surgical treatment that can reverse liver failure!
