The Medical Students’ Associations of Kenya (MSAKE-Kenya) mourns alongside the Medical School fraternity of Egerton University for the untimely demise of our 5th year medical student and President of Egerton University Medical Students’ Association, EUMEDSA, Charles Mwanzia Ngumbau. We stand together in grief, honoring their memory and the profound impact they made within our community.
Our deepest condolences go to the family, friends, mentors, and peers of our student during this incomprehensible time. In unison, we hold space for collective mourning, reflection, and healing. Charles was a student, leader and friend who maintained meaningful engagement with peers and friends, as well as involved himself in multiple areas beyond medicine, in service.
We encourage all members to lean on available support systems, including confidants, family, university counseling services, peer-led wellness groups, and qualified faculty. We continue to actively engage and collaborate with institutions to amplify mental health support and advocacy and ensure no student nor individual suffers in silence, as there is no health without mental health.
While authorities work to clarify the circumstances surrounding this loss, we urge respect for the privacy of the family and refrain from speculation. Let us honor our colleague’s legacy by intentionally extending kindness, checking in on one another, and dismantling the stigma around seeking help specifically for mental health.
As one, Jared Ronoh,
National Member Organization President and Secretary General 2025/26,
