When medics become ill,, they make the worst patients.
Just because they know the risks and outcomes if not attended to.
Ni k**a mimi sasa an OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST niskie a mother is at 3rd trimester na she didn't start a prenatal clinic and she doesn't take the Folic acid supplements.💔💔 and i know of Neural tube defects.

CEREBRAL PALSY ISN'T INHERITED⚠️⚠️
This is a very heart breaking experience 💔 💔
As an occupational therapist, i have ever gone into various hospitals including the KENYATTA NATIONAL HOSPITAL (KNH) MACHAKOS LEVEL 5 TEACHING AND REFERRAL HOSPITAL .
Now listen, i have always wanted to understand my clients not only their condition/s but also their social life at large, be it during the first assessment day or during ongoing therapy sessions when i rebook them for clinics.
Am a person of empathy not sympathy, now, while at machakos hospital, i couldn't tell why most of the care givers were mothers who used to bring in their little innocent angels to clinics, most of them looking stressed, devastated and with no hope of their children's condition. in a way week i recorded a zero case of a male/father care givers who either accompanied their spouses to the clinic.💔
Now, as days passed , my curiosity could not curiousify🤣 me any more,i decided to interview every mother who came in for their child's clinic and i sought to do this during therapy sessions.
I posed a question professionally to avoid being insensitive to them, of course most of them i knew were stressed up.
This is how i did it,,.
"mama so and so,, are you married? ,, now this is where the whole conversation could start, and i would get the whole information I wished to get.
Now see their responses.
Most of them they just first took a deep breath 😭 😭 paused and then they could start narrating.
✅✅more than 80% of these mothers were single mothers who were once happily married but their dream husbands ran away after a doctor broke the news of a condition that their son/daughter suffered from.

ACCUSATIONS FROM HUSBAND/HUSBAND'S FAMILY
Most of these now single mothers, reports and i quote,"sisi kwa familia yetu hatujawai zaa mlemavu, wewe ndio umezaa na hatuwezi weka mlemavu kwa hii nyumba" 😭😭💔 end of quote, what followed after this statement is neglects ,and lack of support.

✅ Stroke can affect one of the two of our cerebral hemispheres.
For your information, we have two cerebral hemispheres in our brain. i.e(right and left hemisphere)
✅Each cerebral hemisphere controls the contralateral side(opposite) of the body.
✅If stroke hit your left hemisphere, you will definitely lose function on its opposite side. i.e right arm and leg. most likely speech too will be affected.
✅If it hit your Right hemisphere, you automatically lose function on your left side.

Common Signs and symptoms
FACE..
✅Drooping face: meaning one of the face sides may droop down than the other side due to muscle weakness.
Numbness:on the face (loss of sensation on the affected area)
UPPER LIMB:
✅Numbness along the Limb due to denervation leading to loss of sensation on the affected side.
Weakness:one affected limb.
SPEECH:
✅difficult with expressive(ability to express yourself)or receptive (ability to understand language or words) language. or slurred speech.
other possible symptoms:
✅Stroke patients may have sudden inability to swallow food or water (dysphagia), sudden state of confusion and severe headache.
✅Lower limb hemiparesis/weakness, numbness-Leading to Sudden inability to Ambulate(walk)
What to do in case you encounter a friend or a relative with such signs or symptoms.
✅ Friends, in case you hear someone say that he or she doesn't feel his 'arm or leg', or sudden change of speech quality, or loss of consciousness,or confusion, don't hesitate, treat it as an emergency, call for help, head to the hospital and seek medical attention especially if the patient/loved one has a history of High blood pressure (HTN).
✅Every health problem including stroke that is treated early, has good prognosis as the damage isn't that serious yet unlike a condition that is diagnosed late.

Role of occupational therapist in a Stroke patients recovery
☑️An occupational therapist will help your stroke patients regain back your independence in walking, dressing, holding a pen,cup or even feeding that you lost after stroke hit you.
✅ Stroke patients loses their independence, meaning, dressing, feeding,or ability to manipulate objects (small) with their affected hand.

Let's learn a bit.
✅ Definition,, stroke is a Neurological condition that affects brain when oxygen or blood flow in the brain is disrupted causing death of brain cells leading to impaired brain function.
✅ types,, A) Ischemic stroke
B) Hemorrhagic Stroke.
✅Now let's separate these by expanding how they occur.
A) Ischemic stroke: occurs when blood supply in the brain is cut or supplied insufficiently leading to brain cell death due to blockage in the blood vessels that supply oxygenated blood to the brain.
B) Hemorrhagic Stroke: This is as a result of blood vessel rupture in the brain leading to blood clots in the brain.

Dear moms and dads of beautiful daughters and handsome sons, Has the child achieved her or his developmental milestones on time? if yes, congratulations to him or her.
if not, worry not, do you suspect of having a prolonged labor, child didn't cry immediately, child born prematurely (Before 37th week of gestation), didn't breastfeed immediately after birth, or being put on oxygen? or any serious illness upon discharge?
all these can affect or can determine the child's ability to attain developmental milestones on time.
By saying developmental milestones i mean,,.
✅head control
✅ sitting
✅ crawling
✅ standing and walking independently as per the age limit.
