We had a carnivorous experience with our friends; Judy and Haron - absolutely loved it.

I just told someone that I avoid eating CRAP - and she looked at me with pure astonishment.

I could practically read her mind before she blurted out - “Doc, that’s not your language!”

I quickly clarified my statement to ensure it wasn’t perceived as disparaging, as that is not my typical style.

C.R.A.P is an acronym for:
- Carbonated drinks,
- Refined sugars,
- Artificial sweeteners/foods, and
- Processed foods.

In the pic: I ordered a “Texas salad” at a restaurant in Nairobi, and it arrived laden with lettuce beneath the surface.
The other ingredients are as depicted.
🎯 Edit: cherry tomatoes, avocado, black olives, feta cheese, sweet corn, grilled chicken breast {covered in green sauce - Tomatillos, green chilies, garlic, cilantro, onion, and lime juice}.
***I have posted a close up photo in the comments section.

✍🏾 … You are welcome to guess what I left on the plate and maybe why I did.

Do you eat C.R.A.P? 🫣 … No judging.😅

As long as you keep going,

As long as you don’t give up and quit, …

A little progress each day adds up to big results.

Keep showing up 👊🏾.

A while back I was seeing a patient for the first time, at our clinic.
- her HBA1c was above target, implying poor sugar control,
- Her waistline had expanded,
- her weight had gone up too, but it definitely was not in muscle 💪🏾 mass,

I was convinced of 3 things:
1. Her dietary intake had a lot of carbohydrates/sugars.
2. Her lifestyle was sedentary.
3. She probably defaulted on her medication.
She admitted that her physical activity was almost non-existent.
However, she asserted that she was still taking her diabetes (Type 2 DM) medication faithfully.
And insisted that she’d cut on carbs.

I then dug deeper on her typical diet including fruits …

Her: “I like bananas and mangoes when in season, otherwise I only take a small glass of juice.”

Me: almost exclaiming, “JUICE?! 😱 Also remember that fruits are nature’s dessert”

Her: “I only take freshly pressed juice not the commercial ones.”

Me: “Hear me clearly,
juices whether freshly squeezed or commercial, may have vitamin C and some antioxidants but otherwise they are ‘SUGAR CONCENTRATES’ that make diabetes worse. That also includes High sugar fruits like bananas, mangoes, grapes, dried fruits etc” …. ✍🏾✍🏾 list some more in the comments section.

“😱” You should have seen how her jaw almost dropped to the floor!

I got had her attention, she now understood why her HBA1c was rising. She took responsibility and renewed her resolve to adjust her dietary habits and even promised to start tracking her steps/day.

As I have practiced Medicine for the last 20 years, I‘ve observed patients struggling to put practical knowledge into good use.

My heart goes out to my patients.

Can this be made any easier? 🤷🏾‍♀️

We soldier on.

{✍🏾: HBA1c (Hemoglobin A1c) is a blood test that measures your average blood sugar (glucose) over the past 2-3 months.}

Today I am walking like a newborn giraffe 🦒…
Eh.. 😅
DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness)has set in and it’s bittersweet.

I should get some applause 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 for
restarting my workout routine after a long break {- that I took to focus on my mum’s healthcare, …. and eventually to grieve her demise}.
It’s been a difficult time and we are still adjusting to our new reality.

2 days ago I called myself into action, and performed an invigorating 40 minute dumbbell workout.
The feeling of accomplishment was rewarding and my routine is now back on track.

Have ever needed to take a break from exercising?

If you have taken time off, please get back the soonest possible, you’ll get refreshed.

20 years ago, we embarked on the adventure of marriage and together we’ve been weaving a tale of love and resilience.

✅ 20 years of:
- practising more of Heartfelt conversations and less of arguements.

- of loving each other even when we don’t agree.

- being on each other’s priority list.

- love, loyalty, fidelity and devotion to stay on course, while emotions wax and wane.

- intentionality; leaning on each other, maintaining interest and not losing the spark.

Today we honor 2 decades of shared experiences.
In those 20 years,
🫰🏾We’ve co-created 3 beautiful humans.
Joshua & Darlene born on May 27, 2008 and Caleb on Feb 21, 2015 -the Gen Alpha who keeps us on our toes.

🫰🏾We attained Masters of Medicine (MMed) in our respective fields,
…Keith, I salute you for conquering the rigors of successive Fellowships in Cardithoracic surgery both in Kenya and overseas, without neglecting your roles as a husband and a dad.

🫰🏾We’ve faced life together as One, even when it meant relocating to Australia for a while.

🫰🏾We grew communities like Fitsistaz KE and Thriving Couples by the Dindis that are an inspiration to many.

In those 20 years ….
We’ve also been through some devastating life events! 🥹
⚠️ Celebrating our anniversary while grieving the loss of my Mum (on Dec 9, 2025) is an internal tug-of-war!

⚠️ Having lost my Dad in 2006, before our 1st anniversary was tough, but we weathered the storm, Together.

Walking alongside each other has been comforting.
⚠️ Keith’s diagnosis of cancer in 2019 shook us, but God Almighty turned things around.

⚠️ We’ve overcome many hurdles over the years, we had a car stolen, lost money and more, but we still bounced back.

🫶🏾 We didn’t just fall in love, we have stayed in love, which has grown stronger, despite the tough times.
We have remained committed without losing the chemistry.
Offering presence without losing the passion.

*Darling Keith 😘, you’ve got both my heart and my intellect, you add fuel to my fire,
Hold me close and I will be with you till I stop breathing.
When you look into my eyes may you see the belief I have in the man you are.
May we ride into the sunset, Together.

🙏🏾As we step into our 21st year of marriage,
“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us”~ Ps. 67:1

🙏🏾May our union inspire others to seek direction over perfection, to build bridges and not walls, and to nurture love and commitment.

🙏🏾A blessed to us.
