๐Ÿ“šCarbon Sequestration in Fruit Trees: Insights from Kenya

How much carbon can fruit trees store, and what does that mean for farmers and climate action?

This technical brief shares findings from a study that developed simple, easy-to-use allometric equations to estimate carbon storage in fruit trees.

By understanding their treesโ€™ carbon value, farmers can access climate finance, negotiate fair payments, and participate more equitably in carbon markets, while safeguarding food security and livelihoods.

๐ŸŒฟ Day 2 of the CIFOR-ICRAF Documentary: Quality Tree Seed Training! ๐ŸŽฅ

What an exciting day in the field! Today, the CIFORโ€“ICRAF team joined us at our farmersโ€™ farms to continue documenting the Quality Tree Seed training โ€” and the energy was amazing! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Farmers were eager to learn as we demonstrated how to raise both avocado and indigenous trees, from seed propagation and planting all the way to management and fruit production. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿฅ‘๐ŸŒณ

We also had great discussions on the importance of agroforestry and organic farming โ€” simple, sustainable practices that help restore our soils, improve biodiversity, and increase yields naturally. ๐Ÿ’š

From weeding and pest control to pruning and mulching, it was all hands-on learning โ€” and the excitement on the farmersโ€™ faces said it all! ๐Ÿ˜Š

A huge thank you to CIFOR-ICRAF for capturing these special moments and to our farmers for their dedication to building greener, more resilient landscapes. Together, weโ€™re growing change โ€” one seed at a time! ๐ŸŒโœจ

Yesterday was monumental! ๐ŸŒณ

We successfully delivered 30,000 assorted indigenous and exotic tree seedlings, and distributed over 20,000 seedlings to smallholder farmers in Masaita, Nyota Ward, Kuresoi North, Nakuru County.

The joy on their faces said it allโ€”hope is being restored one seedling at a time. Through this effort, we reached 54+ households, empowering communities to take charge of local restoration.

We also took the opportunity to restore riparian zones, strengthening our commitment to environmental recovery.

Restore Local it is! ๐ŸŒฑ

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing partners:
Kenya Forest Service, Isinya Roses, and Molo Constituency Forest Association , for joining usโ€”this would not have been possible without your support.

Together, weโ€™re not just planting treesโ€”weโ€™re planting hope for future generations. ๐Ÿ’š
