OVER 40 CHILDREN GRADUATE FROM PMTCT
Today, more than 40 children successfully ‘graduate’ from our Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) program — a major milestone for the children, their families, and our community.
This achievement comes after two years of dedicated follow-up, during which mothers and their babies received continuous HIV testing, treatment support, and clinical monitoring to ensure the children remained HIV-free.
Advances in HIV research and treatment have transformed PMTCT care. What was once a complex and difficult process has evolved into safe, effective, and manageable treatment plans that protect infants throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.
But scientific progress alone isn’t enough. The commitment of mothers makes this success possible. Medication works only when taken consistently, and these mothers demonstrated remarkable strength and adherence — supported by peers who helped them navigate the emotional and practical challenges along the journey.
A successful PMTCT program requires partnership: mothers, healthcare workers, community support groups, and proven medical interventions all working together. Today’s graduation is not just a ceremony — it is a powerful reminder of how far we have come and what is possible for future generations.
This is a significant milestone, especially considering that decades ago, effective PMTCT services did not exist. Today, we celebrate healthy children, empowered mothers, and a future full of hope.
