Patient: I just can’t drive at night. The light from the vehicles causes too much glare.
The patient had an astigmatism of -3diopter and that was the cause of his symptoms.
Astigmatism causes distorted vision, and it is worsened at night when pupils dilate, leading to glare, halos, and streaky lights around traffic signals, making night driving difficult.
To improve night vision with astigmatism, correct vision with prescription lenses, consider anti-glare coating, ensure vehicle windows and headlights are clean, use your car’s night settings on the rearview mirror, and practice safe driving techniques like avoiding direct eye contact with oncoming headlights.
