PRESS RELEASE🗞️

The Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of Kenya (AOMSK), together with the Kenya Dental Association (KDA), proudly celebrates a historic milestone following the conferment of State Honours by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya during the Jamhuri Day celebrations on 12th December 2025.

We congratulate Dr Andrew Okiriamu, Maxillofacial Surgeon (HSC), Prof Symon Guthua, Maxillofacial Surgeon (HSC), Prof Kennedy Koech, Maxillofacial Surgeon (OGW), and Dr Margaret Mwasha, Maxillofacial Prosthodontist (MBS) on this well-deserved national recognition.

This national recognition affirms the critical role of oral and maxillofacial specialists in restoring function, dignity, and hope to patients affected by trauma, disease, and congenital conditions. It is a powerful acknowledgment that the work done in theatres, clinics, and training institutions across the country is not only clinically excellent but nationally impactful.

This recognition elevates the dentistry and surgery profession, inspires future dentists and specialists, and underscores dentistry’s and surgery’s vital contribution to Kenya’s healthcare system and national development.

This is a proud moment for dentistry and surgery. This is a proud moment for Kenya.

🛑 The Link Between Thumb Sucking & Teeth Alignment.

The adorable habit in the first picture can, over time, lead to significant dental issues like those shown below.

Why the rush?

Persistent thumb or finger sucking, especially past the age of 4, applies continuous pressure that can:
🚨Push the front teeth outward (flaring).
🚨Create an open bite, where the top and bottom front teeth don’t meet.
🚨Impact the proper development of the jaw and palate.

✨ Here’s a pro tip: Addressing this habit before the permanent teeth arrive is key to a simpler, healthier smile. Talk to your dentist about strategies to help your little one break the habit!

🚫 Poorly Done Dentures: A Silent Epidemic You Shouldn’t Ignore🚨

Poorly done dentures are more than just uncomfortable—they’re dangerous.
These images show what happens when people fall into the hands of unqualified “denture makers.”

Inflamed gums, tissue damage, trapped debris, and painful removals are all avoidable with proper dental care.

🦷 Always see a licensed dentist.
🦷 Avoid cheap shortcuts and street-side fixes.
🦷 Your oral health is too important to risk on quacks.
Protect your smile. Choose professionals.
