OVARIAN CYSTS
Ovarian cysts are pockets of fluid that form on or inside a woman’s o***y.
Many are harmless, silent, and disappear on their own, but some can cause pain, bloating, or menstrual changes.
They are very common and can happen at any age after puberty
🔑 What really causes them?
Most grow during the monthly cycle when the o***y is preparing an egg. Sometimes the sac that should release the egg doesn’t open, or it doesn’t close properly after release, and fluid builds up.
Hormone imbalance, certain drugs used to help pregnancy, endometriosis, and infections that spread to the ovaries can also make cysts more likely.
🔑 Common signs you may notice
Some people feel nothing at all. Others may feel lower belly pain that comes and goes, pain during s*x, bloating, swelling on one side of the lower stomach, or changes in their period pattern. If the cyst twists or bursts, the pain becomes sudden and very sharp.
🔑 When it becomes dangerous
A cyst can twist the o***y and cut off its blood flow, causing severe pain and vomiting. A burst cyst can also cause bleeding inside the belly. Both conditions need quick medical attention.
🔑 How is it checked?
An ultrasound is the main test. It shows the size, type, and whether it looks simple or complicated. Blood tests may be added if needed.
🔑 Treatment depends on the type
- Most simple cysts just need watch-and-wait with repeat scans.
- Pain medicines help ease discomfort.
- Larger or complicated cysts may need surgery, especially if they keep growing or cause serious pain.
🔑 This is what you should not ignore
– Sudden sharp lower belly pain
– Pain with fever or vomiting
– Feeling faint or weak
– Strong pain during your period or s*x
These may signal a burst or twisted cyst and need urgent care.
Many women have them at some point and live normal lives. Eating well, maintaining a healthy weight, and managing hormones can help reduce the chance of some cysts coming back.
Regular checks help catch changes early.
Most ovarian cysts are not dangerous. The real problem is ignoring symptoms that call for attention. Early assessment keeps you safe and prevents complications.
