Colon cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, yet it is commonly missed.
Here is the problem;
Symptoms show up when it’s advanced. Waiting for symptoms is waiting too long!
Colonoscopy is not just a diagnostic test. It is preventive care. It allows us to find and remove the precancerous polyps that are silently seating in your colon, long before they become cancerous.
Who needs colonoscopy?
📌 Anyone above 45( 40 in some populations)
📌 A family history of colon cancer- screening should be done 10 years earlier than the age at which your relative was diagnosed with colon cancer.
📌An underlying condition like IBS, metabolic syndrome, long standing gut inflammation.
📌Symptoms- unexplained iron deficiency, blood in stool, abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits like constipation & diarrhea.
📌studies indicate increased risk of colon cancer in patients on long term ( more than 3 months) treatment with PPIs (omeprazole, Esomeprazole)
Note:
Symptoms are late. Screening is early.
