New CSC Blog Post: "CSC Welcomes Back Dr. Nute"
Earlier this summer, CSC was delighted to welcome back Dr. Chantanute, affectionately known as “Dr. Nute.” After leaving CSC in early 2022 to complete a specialty residency in ophthalmological and retinal surgery, Dr. Nute has returned to bring his advanced skills to the patients of Cambodia. CSC was proud to support him throughout his training, with the shared goal of strengthening eye care services upon his return. Today, Dr. Nute provides expert treatment for cataracts, glaucoma, pterygium, strabismus, and retinal conditions, continuing CSC’s mission to restore sight and improve lives. When asked what he likes best about CSC, he shared, "I became a doctor to help people who have no other options. Seeing their gratitude reminds me why I returned to CSC.”

Our staff are our most valuable resource in providing high-quality surgical care, and everyone has a unique role to play. We are grateful that Dr. Nute has returned to support our Mission.

New CSC Blog Post: "THANK YOU, CharityVision!"
Children’s Surgical Centre is deeply grateful to CharityVision for their generous donation of cataract surgery instruments and essential supplies. These resources are vital to our eye team, enabling them to provide high-quality, sight-restoring surgeries for patients who otherwise would not have access to care.

Every cataract surgery performed at CSC transforms a life—allowing patients to regain independence, return to work, and reconnect with loved ones. With CharityVision’s support, our surgeons can continue restoring sight to some of Cambodia’s most vulnerable people, bringing hope and opportunity to hundreds of families each year.

Thank you, CharityVision, for partnering with us in our mission to improve vision and change lives in Cambodia.

To allow our staff to share the holiday with their families, CSC will close 20 September 2025 and re-open 29 September 2025. The Pchum Ben Festival honors the previous seven generations of ancestors, and families gather at nearby pagodas to offer food and prayers to their ancestors to save them from bad karma. CSC looks forward to greeting new patients on 29 September.

New CSC Blog Post: "Capturing our Mission in Video"
A Young Filmmaker from Singapore Brings CSC’s Mission to Life

This summer, Children’s Surgical Centre met a special young woman from Singapore — a 17-year-old student named Amanda with a passion for storytelling and a heart for service. While most students spend their school break resting or traveling, she chose to use her skills to make a difference. Amanda created a donor video that beautifully captures the stories of patients, the dedication of the medical team, and the life-changing surgeries that take place every day. Through her lens, the compassion and resilience of the Cambodian team shone brightly, bringing CSC’s mission to life in a way that words alone cannot. We hope her video will help CSC reach more supporters, inspiring them to join in providing free or low-cost, high-quality surgical care for Cambodians with disabilities. For a young student to offer her talent so generously is a reminder that anyone, at any age, can make a lasting impact.

At CSC, we are deeply grateful for her creativity and commitment — and we know that her video will help more Cambodians receive the care they need.

New CSC Blog Post: "New Zealand Spine Team Visit"
Ratha is a four-year-old who struggled to breathe and could not walk until he was almost three years old due to a congenitally deformed spine. His parents read about Children's Surgical Centre through social media and sought treatment. The voluntary New Zealand spine team, who recently visited CSC, brought their expertise to provide life-changing care for children in need of spinal surgery. Many of these young patients, like Ratha, suffer from severe conditions such as scoliosis, congenital deformities, or spinal injuries that limit mobility and cause significant pain. With specialized skills and advanced techniques, the team worked alongside CSC staff to perform complex surgeries that are otherwise unavailable in Cambodia for children with disabilities who cannot afford care. Their visit not only restored hope and improved the quality of life for the children treated but also strengthened local capacity through training and knowledge sharing with Cambodian surgeons and nurses. If you are interested in helping these families who seek care for their children, visit our website at www.csc.org.

New CSC Blog Post: "CSC- support an ultra-marathon!"
From 28th of September to the 4th of October 2025, a long-time CSC friend, David Grosse, will be competing in a 250km ultra-marathon across the wildest areas of the Peloponnese in Greece, raising funds for Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). https://www.racingtheplanet.com/greece.

The idea of giving back and making the world a better place is a large part of the RacingThePlanet ethos. Throughout the years, RacingThePlanet has donated much-needed funds and supplies to an assortment of charities around the globe. David has picked Children's Surgical Centre. His Greek Odyssey will take him on trails, weaving through olive groves, along the sea, through hidden ravines, and climbing to reach stunning views of mountains, rolling countryside, and the Aegean Sea. To add some extra challenge, the race is self-supported, so they will be carrying all their provisions, clothes and equipment for the week, albeit (hopefully) the tents will be set up and waiting at the end of each stage.

David has been raising funds for the CSC since 2010, when he foolishly agreed to run/limp across 250km of the wild north of Western Australia. It was brutal, and he swore never again. So, 11 events and 2250km later, he is back for one last event (again) to raise money for CSC.

David has visited Cambodia, Jim, and the CSC team a couple of times, which made a deep impression on him and his family, especially CSC's work and story, from its beginnings helping victims of landmine injuries, into what is now a teaching hospital with over 70 Cambodian staff performing free or low-cost surgery for economically disadvantaged patients.

Visiting the CSC was both humbling and a privilege for David. As well as offering Cambodians access to life-changing surgery, we train Khmer surgeons and staff, and provide an opportunity to work with international surgeons and other volunteers from all over the world. This helps develop local skills and knowledge that contribute to long-term improvements in healthcare across the country. Please consider supporting David as he supports our work at CSC https://csc.org/campaigns/david/

New CSC Blog Post: "The Heart Behind ENT Care at CSC"
Earlier this year, Watsi (a charity that funds much of CSC's life-changing surgeries) had the chance to sit down with Nika, a CSC-dedicated audiologist and ENT nurse. With her warm smile and calm confidence, Nika shared what it’s like to be on the front lines of care for patients with chronic ear infections, hearing loss, and other ENT conditions, many of whom travel hours just to reach CSC. “We don’t just treat the ear,” Nika explained. “We care for the whole person. Most of our patients are from the provinces, and many feel nervous or afraid when they arrive. It’s our job to help them feel safe, informed, and hopeful.”

Nika joined CSC seven years ago after being a patient and has become an essential part of the ENT team. From pre-op counseling to post-op wound care and patient education, her role touches every part of the healing journey. “Seeing a child smile after hearing clearly for the first time—that’s what keeps me going,” she said. The Watsi team was inspired by Nika’s deep compassion and unwavering professionalism. Her story is just one of many at CSC, where Cambodian healthcare workers like Nika are transforming lives every day. Watch the video here:

Our Story

The Children's Surgical Centre is an NGO 501(c)3 registered in Alaska, USA (Alaska entity # 76640D). CSC is non-profit, non-political, and non-religious, and is widely recognised in Cambodia for providing a range of specialized rehabilitation surgical services, surgical training, and direct support to the people of Cambodia.

Background Cambodia has gone through 30 years of war and genocide by the Pol Pot regime, in which educated citizens were targeted for ex*****on, causing the medical system to suffer. Many of Cambodia's disabled live in extreme poverty with surgically treatable conditions. Dr. Jim Gollogly, a British-American surgeon, founded Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) in 1998. Since that time, patient numbers and operations have grown exponentially.

Mission CSC aims to improve the quality of life for disabled Cambodian children and adults by providing life changing healthcare. Integral to this mission is a program of training local doctors and nurses, focusing on the development of sustainable health services. CSC provides a wide range of services, encompassing orthopedic surgery, eye surgery, plastic & burn surgery, ENT surgery, speech therapy, and physical therapy.

In 2017, CSC provided more than 25,000 consultations and 4,018 life-changing and life-saving surgeries – free of charge.
